PROJECT BINDER
Keep everything in one place with a project binder. I
use binders with pockets and label each section. This
isnt a catch-all file for everything that crosses my desk,
only what I think I will use. Label your sections in a way
that works for you. I usually label mine as follows:
You will pull from this pile later and begin the
editing process, but its a great place to start
accumulating your inspirations.
B lu-tac A staple in every stylists bag, this puttylike adhesive is reusable and perfect for easily
applying lightweight objects to dry surfaces like
walls. With Blu-tac you can quickly tack up a sheet
of wallpaper, painted poster boards to test colors
in a room, or art prints to see how they look on
the wall before you have them framed.

WHAT ARE
YOUR SAFE
COLORS?
Just for fun, examine the colors
that you surround yourself with
at home and in your closet.
Consider what new ones you
could add to the usual mix. Try
experimenting with a touch
of neon mixed with pastel, for
instance. Think of colors you
do not use that you may like to
experiment with and grab some
paint swatches so you can refer
to them when we talk about
color later in the book.
WHAT IS YOUR
IDEAL SCENT?
What are some of your
favorite perfumes? When it
comes to scented candles,
which are your favorites and
why? How do the scents that
you love make you feel? How
do you use them in your
home? What do you smell
when you enter your home
and do you like it? How does
this affect how you feel at
home? Now that you know
what you love to smell, think
of ways to use scent at home
to create a warm interior
space. And remember, you
dont want to simply mask a
musty closet with room spray
so first get to the root of the
problem, remove it, and then
layer in fragrant touches.

INSPIRING SPACES
It was love at first sight the moment I stepped into
this charming Parisian apartment belonging to
set designer and artistic director Jean-Christophe
Aumas. I was inspired by his collection of books
and magazines, along with vintage gold letters.
When you visit a friends home try to hone in on
what inspires you the most. When I returned from
Paris, I decided to display some of my books laid
open, versus closed. Little changes can make a
difference and Ive noticed my guests flipping
through my books much more often as a result.
THIS PAGE: A bold navy blue
wall with a lovely Jean Prouv
cabinet from Vitra adds instant
impact while also complementing
the nearby vintage sofa. Strong
touches of yellow, red, and green
tones add vivid jolts of color and
the futuristic notes of the artwork
bring in a touch of humor.

KEEPING A RECORD
An art gallery usually wont allow photography but you
can sketch things that inspire you, or purchase a postcard
of the work if available, or ask for a catalog or the artists
website so that you can stay connected to the work.
