their eyes when you mention the Chalet Robinson: its part of their history, their childhood. The Chalet, perched in the middle of the lake in the Bois de la Cambre park, opened in 1877, quickly becoming a favourite spot for weekend outings. Destroyed by re in 1991, it nally reopened in 2009 with local entrepreneurs Serge and Pascal Van Hamme at the helm. Its tricky, taking over an institution (all those cherished memories to desecrate, all that outrage to fan), but this is a wonderfully aectionate restoration. Pay 1 to take the tiny ferry to the island, and you discover an unlikely bucolic paradise: tame bunnies hop around underfoot, there are rowing boats for hire and a pet goose called Gertrude keeping a watchful eye on proceedings. The basics are solidly brilliant too: wicked ice cream sundaes, wam es and crisp frites. From a good range of wines by the glass, my Pouilly-Fum was inty and aromatic. Brussels clearly approves of the new Chalet: getting a table on sunny weekend lunchtimes is almost impossible. Instead, do what I do and go on a dark, frosty winter evening, when the path through the trees is picked out in candles and theres a re inside. Its a magical place to form some memories of your own. Car le Chalet, cest un peu de son histoire, de son enfance. Perch au milieu du lac du Bois de la Cambre, lendroit ouvrit en 1877 et devint rapidement un des lieux de sortie prfrs pour le week-end. Dtruit par un incendie en 1991, il rouvrit nalement en 2009, port par deux entrepreneurs locaux, Serge et Pascal Van Hamme. Reprendre une institution nest pas chose aise (tous ces souvenirs profaner, ce toll soulever...), mais la restauration a t faite avec gards et aection. Prenez le minuscule bac qui dessert lle (1 ) et vous dcouvrez un paradis bucolique improbable : de petits lapins sautillent vos pieds prs des canots louer, sous lil attentif de loie domestique Gertrude. Que vous veniez pour un festin complet ou simplement admirer le charmant spectacle dans un transat, laccueil est le mme. Avec un cadre aussi idyllique, la tentation doit tre grande de ne pas se fatiguer en cuisine mais la ralit dpasse les attentes : le carr de veau sous vide est ros et juteux et ses petits navets doux ont gard leur croustillant. Le poulet rti saccompagne dune pure bien beurre et dune dlicieuse sauce aux morilles, quintessence de lautomne, sans oublier de succulentes glaces et des frites croustillantes. Le nouveau Chalet a clairement les faveurs de Bruxelles : y djeuner par un week-end ensoleill est quasi impossible. Faites donc comme moi, allez-y un sombre et froid soir dhiver, quand les bougies dessinent le chemin sous les arbres et qu lintrieur ronronne un feu de chemine.
