Enjoy hollidays !

Sea, Sun... And a head full of dreams !

THE SUMMER HOLLIDAYS !

In France, the summer holidays are commonly called "the long hollidays". For schoolchildren, they last 2 months! Generaly, French poeple take this opportunity to travel (2-3 weeks or 1 month). Indeed, they have ve weeks of paid vacation per year, which allows them to take long summer holidays. Destinations and activities are varied and depend of course of everyone's tastes, but French poeple are k n o w n t o l ove going to the beach, take sunbathes...

Those who do not appreciate the "farniente" (litteraly "doing nothing" often prefer the mountains and hiking.

In Paris, takes place every year the traditional military parade.

JULY 14TH - BASTILLE DAY

Its the national day ! French poeple are commemorating the most important event in their history, the Revolution (and the "fte de la fdration", symbolizing the unity of French people). Celebrations are held all over t h e c o u n t r y. T h e p ro g r a m includes concerts, balls, and of course the traditional reworks at midnight.

Christ) in heaven at the end of his earthly life. The weekend of August 15TH, is also known to be the busiest of the summer holidays.
BACK TO SCHOOL

After 2 months of welldeserved vacations, it's time for all the children to head back to school. Indeed, the French school year always begins in early September.

FOCUS : MARRIAGE!

PAGE

$e proposal...

As in a fairy tal#...
ONE GNEE ON THE GROUND...

Before the wedding, of course, comes the proposal. It has to be original ! In fact, recentely, French poeple make their proposal in special places (during a romantic trip, for example). The proposal itself is fairly standard, one knee on the ground, a ring in a hand and... "Will you marry me ?".
...THE EVE...

Then the couple goes to the town hall for the ceremony itself. They ofcially engage themselves in marriage by signing the ofcial documents in front of the mayor (this is why the expression "Stand on front of the mayor" means "to get marry" !). Then the newlyweds, if they are believers, go to the church for the religious ceremony. After this blessing in the church, everyone goes to a place in order to take the "vin dhonneur" (a cocktail in which everyone can congratulate the couple). The couple, for their part, are going to have the wedding pictures taken and will arrive a bit later.

In France, its very common to live together before getting married, but the day before the ofcial ceremony, the bride and groom usually sleep at their parents house. ...D DAY ! On the wedding day, the groom will get his future wife at her parents house with the "car of the bride" (which could be a classic car, an old one, a drawn carriage, or something else, but it has to be special and well decorated with fresh owers).

After the cocktail, the bride and groom and their families found themselves in restricted committee for a festive meal that will last until dawn ...

THE BLUE PLANET. SOFT WATER

The Earth is called like this because from outerspace, it appears as an aquatic world. In fact, the oceans cover more than 70% of its surface.

If Earth is full of water, only 0.3% of the resource is available for human beings; the rest is constituted by salt water or blocked of ice. Actuallyt, one billion people have no access to clean drinking water and bad quality of water kills 6 million people every single year.

Water is more rare

Save water! For example, turn off your tap when youre brushing your teeth. But the sea is still too often considered as a waste. Result: a real "plastic continent" entirely composed by human wastes and 6 times larger than France !

WATER: DID YOU KNOW ?

"Only water is eternal "

Yun Son-Do

A human body is composed at about 65% of water. And we lose water every day in large quantities (urine, sweating, etc..). This is why we cannot live without regular water intake. Now try to think about this: The global volume of water on Earth does not move, the water dinosaurs or mammoths drank is the same we drink. The drinking water for Africans, Chinese or French is the same! We are mainly composed of water ... The same water! And this also applies to all other living species, whether plants or animals. We are all members of a single whole...

THE WORD OF THE QUARTER !

PAGE

Je taime
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

rd wo w e n a a l ver ltur Disco t s c u i a n d t... aspec

Of course, everyone knows the meaning of this sentence. What some poeple may not know, is that, in French, it is only this way - short and without adjectives- that it takes its romantic meaning. Thus, " Je taime beaucoup (very much)" has a friendly meaning...

In fact, it is rare to directly ask someone to become his girlfriend/her boyfriend; French poeple often prefer a kiss exchanged as words... We also sometimes meet international couples who did not speak a word of the language of the other when they met... French poeple understand very well such situations. When hearts are in unison, nothing is impossible. In addition, French poe ple, especially women, prefer romantic attentions (a rose, a love letter, a candlelit homemade dinner, among others...) than words which would be meanless whithout being accompagned by any action.
Rudy

But french poeple also use "Je taime" with their families to express their commitment to the poeple they love.
WHY THIS WORD?

Because this is THE word of Love. French poeple use it a lot! Its usual for couples and families to exchange these sweet words of love everyday.
ON THE OTHER HAND...

Its also true that French poeple usually consider that, in love, words are unnecessary...

The Club Dorothes period also coincides with what is commonly known as the "golden age of video games" (it was the time of the legendary war between Sega and Nintendo ...).

FOR THE ANECDOTE...

The name "Lalopie" has its origins in a French dialect: the language of Oc or Occitan - spoken in the south of France, especially in the Languedoc Roussillon region meaning "fourgon" (long and narrow bar of iron used to stoke the re)."
