Brief Description: Common in the northern, central and southern Sahara, this is probably the most common Acacia in the Sahara. Varying between a shrub and a tree, they grow between 2 to 10 meters tall and have various medicinal and carpentry uses. They provide shade during midday and their leaves and seed pods make excellent pasture for domestic animals. The Tuareg peoples say there are three joys in life: (1) a camel, (2) an Acacia and (3) dates (the fruit).
