About Horizon 2020
Events Programme
I
t gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Belm, Brazil for
the EU-Brazil Technology and Innovation Forum and Tour of
Brazil Events. We thank Anprotec and the Par authorities for
hosting this weeks events, which will surely provide a momen-
tous occasion for the congregation of leading innovators from
both Brazil and the European Union.
The EU regards Brazil as an important partner, which is reected by the multi-
tude of our relations and cooperation. Brazil is a key research and trading par-
tner of the European Union in Latin America and the EU has become the single
biggest foreign investor in Brazil.
The current EU-Brazil bilateral dialogue focuses on Innovation as an indispensable
dimension of cooperation. Since 2004, the Agreement for Scientic and Technological
Cooperation has governed a fruitful strategic partnership committed to mutual pro-
gress on several central topics. Through existing programmes and joint actions, we
are working with Brazilian partners to reinforce this collaboration and to open up new
avenues for the exchange of innovative ideas and results between our two regions.
On the agenda for 2014, the European Commission has planned various strategic
actions throughout Brazil. The most noteworthy of which may be the Tour of Brazil,
organized jointly by the EU Delegation to Brazil and the European Union Member
States Embassies in Brazil, with the support of B.BICE+ and EURAXESS. Its goal is
to promote opportunities for cooperation with Europe on research and innovation
by organising encounters in different States of Brazil with the support of local
institutions (FAPs, SECTIs, Technological Parks, and others).
The Tour of Brazil will bring Horizon 2020, the EUs new framework programme
for research and innovation, to the doorstep of potential Brazilian participants.
With these endeavours in mind, two events will be held this week in Belm. Your
attendance is very welcome.
Moreover, the internationalisation of the Brazilian research and innovation system,
with programmes such as Cincia sem fronteiras, Start-Up Brasil and others, pre-
sents new and promising pathways for the EU-Brazil cooperation on innovation.
Finally, we must not forget the B.BICE+ project, one organiser of the EU-Brazil
Technology and Innovation Forum. Since 2012, as an EC-funded project, B.BICE+
has worked to support cooperation in the domains of science, technology and
innovation and orchestrate such occasions to further these ambitions such as the
events of this weeks Forum.
I ampleased to see that Brazilian interest in the EU is constantly growing in paral-
lel with the EUs interest and presence in Brazil. This interest will lay a strong
foundation for our ever closer cooperation into the future.

Ambassador, Head of EU Delegation to Brazil
This year the events of the EU-Brazil Technology and Inno-
vation Forum and Tour of Brazil are being held on the oc-

tive entrepreneurship movement in Brazil. It contributes to
strengthening business incubators and science and technolo-
gy parks, as well as public policies related to science, techno-
logy and innovation.
The 2014 theme of Anprotecs Seminar is Frontiers of Innova-
tive Entrepreneurship: New Connections for Results. For this
reason, this Forum also represents an auspicious opportunity
to arrange various events promoting the international coopera-
tion between Brazilian and European partners in the area of
science, technology and innovation.
Tour of Brazil

Parks and other Innovation Actors for Cooperation with Eu-
rope has been organized during this Forum jointly with the
Embassies of the European Member States, the European

Technology Forum will provide the opportunity for establishing contacts to develop
R&D collaborations and networks among EU and Brazilian innovation actors and
business opportunities and long-term partnerships for EU and Brazilian universities
