BIENVENUE !
Here we are! The conference started an hour ago, and everybody is showing up: the
admins, the chairs, all the heads and of course the much prized delegates.
Margaux Raymond, head of Housing, said, A whole project is going real. But for the
moment we are basically supervising
Although the atmosphere is hectic, everybody feels very excited and motivated as said
the delegates. They are ready to argue and feel well prepared to enter into an educated
debate.
Some of them are a bit nervous or stressed but they are more joyful than anything said
the welcoming administrators.
We asked the administrators who are in charge of the lockers how things were going on
their end but they said that they didnt have a lot of work because they have No clients
for the moment. However we later saw many people leaving their things in the lockers.
Etienne, the deputy Secretary General, feels stressed about what is going to happen but,
as always, is really excited and looking forward to seeing what the first committees are
going to be like.
To put it in a nutshell, things start now: there are a few difficulties but it goes on
smoothly, everybody is excited and and feeling happy to be here.

CHAIRS EXPECTATIONS
Today, as the first day of ILYMUN 2015, we set off into the midst of the hall to find out a
bit about the chairs hopes and expectations for their upcoming committees and this
years conference.
The first person we managed to get hold of was the chair for the Historical Security
Council. She believes it will be difficult for there are lots of people. However, she had
an eager manner as she talked about her big responsibility to me: she is definitely
looking forward to this unique opportunity as it is her first time at ILYMUN.
Next up, was Sevanna from the CSI from the Security Council
committee. This is her second time she was given the chair
position. Last year she was part of the political and
decolonisation council. To prepare, she researched online for
procedures and videos of debates at the UN to know how to
behave whilst chairing. I even searched up how to write a
proper speech, she said, with a smile on her face. Indeed,
chairs have the importance of their role bearing on their minds
as they must start off the debate with a speech, to make sure
everyone is equally informed and up to date. From her past
experience, she said that at first you think it might be
awkward, but then if youre smiling, it works. She finished off
by sharing that she actually feels connected with her delegates,
who had sent her personal messages previously for last minute
questions and arrangements.
Between the lobbying activities, I tried to interview Magali Vennin from the CSI, head of
chairs. However, she was rushing about and didnt really have time to stop. Nevertheless,
she kindly agreed to answer my questions by email. She is chairing the Special
Conference. Magali is very involved in MUN as well as ILYMUN. She regularly proposes
to chair and attempt to control a classroom of tired and chatty students, at the end of a
long day. As Head of Chairs, she has extra work on her case: she has had to correct
all the research reports of the other chair, as well as write her own. Whats more,

she also trained all the chairs on what they had to do and therefore lead several
workshops. According to her, there are difficulties in making yourself heard and mostly
listened. Magali chose chairing rather than being a delegate because her curiosity level
is extra high and she wants to improve her listening skills, which are just as important as
debating one.
Amalie, from Denmark, and Sydney,
from the CSI, were both working
together to chair the Development
Goals council. From their
perspective, chairing is a lot of
work: you have to write research
reports of four to six pages on
subjects to help the delegates and
there are a lot of meetings to attend
to, to learn how to chair. Despite
the hectic atmosphere, its a small
committee so theres a warm mood
lingering in the room. If there are
small hitches, we can just laugh it
off, says Sydney.
Last but not least, Maya Gottlieb, a student from the ISL. She was very happy to be
interviewed as she exclaimed I love interviews!. Maya has had a lot of experience in
conferences: she does MUN, participated to a conference in Berlin as a delegate and has
been part of two previous ILYMUN conferences as an admin. This has enabled her to
watch how conferences work and what its like to me an admin. She prefers being an
admin to a delegate for she believes there is more freedom to being a chair. Its also
less boring, she sneakily adds.
Work has only just started for the chairs: I overheard that the
chairs have to write up clauses for tomorrow, and they also have
two busy days ahead of them. We give them a warm Good Luck
from the press team room.

Today, the first day of ILYMUN, will start with electro type music around noon and move
towards gabber or hardcore, which is a more distorted genre of electro with the tempo
ranging from 150 to 180 BMP, and then, to finish off the day, and echoing Elliot last year,
he will play dubstep. Tomorrow however, will be more melodic. Starting with funk at 8,
jazz at 10, rock at 12, gentle metal at 2 and finishing the day with the silent discos
namesake: disco.
There will be boxes left around the building for the bluetooth headphones to be left in in
order to minimize the chance of any losses. Please, when youve finished with the
headphones, return them to Alexandre in the main hall or place them in a box.

Firstly, the heads of social events had to look for a place to organize the party, and as we
are a large group of people, it was not an easy task, even having been able to obtain a
better budget that last year.
They had to meet the owner of the party room twice and called each other many times.
Finally, there are 463 of us but the heads are expecting less.
It will be from 7.30 pm to 11.00 pm, at Les Terasses du Parc.
Heads of social events will have to handle all the people during the party. Moreover their
dress code will be red so that they are recognizable, so if you have any question for them,
dont hesitate! (and try to not wear red, it could be confusing)
Their main goal is to let the people have fun, and not constrain them in a serious attitude,
allow them to talk freely and enjoy themselves.

This year, girls chose to conflict dark shades with a touch of color.
Jenny JAMES always dresses differently from the others: she
wanted to keep that style.
She believes colors make people smile, she wanted to bring bright
color to ILYMUN.
Rachel OUDET bought new clothes for the occasion She was all
in black, except the colourful scarf (Herms, no less), avoiding to
look like she was going to a funeral.

Julie MARTIN was dressed formally, like the past 3 years. Ans
there wasnt a specific reason to wearing black (tomorrow shell
switch it up to something brighter )
Other girls chose to wear very high heels despite the intense
pain.
