Electric cars are in, there’s no doubt about that. Where there is doubt is in how far you can travel in one. Battery power is all well and good in a city, when you’re not doing many miles and you’ve got a home charger to top you up when you get back from work, but put long-distance driving into the equation and suddenly everyone’s running for the hills – in their fossil-fuel-burning cars, of course.
