Trump says Mexico's violence is a threat to the US. Here are 3 ways the US helps drive that violence

MEXICO CITY - President Donald Trump tweeted about Mexico's soaring violence this week, saying the United States must beef up its border security in response.

"One of the reasons we need Great Border Security is that Mexico's murder rate in 2017 increased by 27 percent to 31,174 people killed, a record!" Trump tweeted.

He was referencing new data that show there were a record 31,174 homicides in Mexico last year - a 27 percent increase over the year
