“The Six Nations is under new management and that is exciting”

AN INSTRUCTIVE anecdote was relayed to the outside world by Stuart Lancaster early in his career as England coach. He was in the bowels of the Stade de France on his way to the media conference rooms and had no idea which way to go; he had never been in those corridors before and hadn’t the foggiest.

At least he was honest when he finally arrived, therefore putting him ahead of a good few national coaches of my experience. But that is another story.

This season Six Nations media briefings could be delayed again as hordes of new men try to find their way through the enormous sporting cathedrals that house Test rugby in Europe these days. Never mind, at least the media are extremely patient, placid and accepting. Not, not and not.

The changes are profound. All six of the coaching teams have had a significant shake-up and it is the management group that beds down the quickest that will have the advantage.

England and Scotland will be under the same head coaches
