STEP ONE

I am here at ‘The Breakaway’ in August, and it looks fantastic. First thought is composition. The photograph shows a good flowing arrangement that doesn’t need much changing.

To sketch in, I use a long handled Number 6 liner brush because it helps me to swish around

• When a pastel painting is complete, use glasseine paper and – with a credit card – swipe the whole surface, pressing firmly. This helps to hold the pastel and prevent any fallout of odd specks of colour. • Be passionate about what you are painting.
