IF EVER A CAR DIDN’T NEED advertising, it would be the Mustang. Word of mouth about didn’t suggest it, the stampedes in the streets and the fat dealer profits told Ford that it had something good on its hands. Yet Ford resisted the urge to save its ad budget, insisting on advertising the Mustang everywhere, until no American eyeball could avoid its ubiquity.
