Yellow tomatoes

It is curious how fashion in things to eat dominates us as much as in things to wear. Else why is it that only the scarlet tomato is patronised to the exclusion of other colours? Commenting on this, the Lincoln and Stamford Mercury’s market gardening expert says: “Some yellow tomatoes are grown mainly for table decoration, but the public will not have them, strange to say, although certainly some varieties possess excellent flavours.

“These yellow fruiting kinds grow in the open and under glass to perfection, but the colour seems to hinder their sale, although retailers have tried their best to push their sales. Private people
