BRAKE ENERGY EXPLAINED

Why do power and torque figures make all the headlines while braking performance is often ignored? To test which vehicles in Performance Shootout 2020 have the best brakes, we decided to put those ventilated discs and multi-piston callipers in the spotlight by conducting 160-0 km/h braking tests at maximum deceleration. This is 60 km/h faster than the speed used as a starting point during CAR’s standard emergency-braking tests but these are sportscars after all. By using basic energy calculations, interesting results are unearthed.
