Grasping a dirty T-shirt off the floor with my foot, I managed to fling it down the stairs. Repeating the same awkward movement with the rest of the pile of laundry, I’d eventually got it all down.
Next, gripping the banister, I slowly made my way downstairs, and began the process again – kicking items of clothing one by one into the kitchen, and then into the washing machine.
Finally, after over an hour, I switched on the machine.
