A Car Crash, Blizzard and Buffalo

Anyone who has hunted out of state or in a different country knows about the amount of attention and detail that must be given to logistics. My friend Ken Shilling and I spent an afternoon putting all the pieces together before loading his truck and hooking up a trailer full of coolers before we embarked on a two-day drive from our homes in Texas to South Dakota for a buffalo hunt. We were both experienced hunters and had shot together in F-class rifle competitions for many years. In short we had a good measure of each other and were looking forward to a successful trip.

And it was that sense of optimism we enjoyed the next day when a driver blew through a red light just as we crossed the South Dakota state line and totaled the truck and trailer.
