I think mental and emotional health is at the very top. One of the big reasons people struggle is not excess weight, not food – it’s how they feel about themselves. For a lot of people who need to lose a significant amount of weight, the past is a huge barrier and so more times than not it’s about going to that place. The most important exercise is getting them to go to that place and really look at what’s going on. I can’t force people to do that if they aren’t willing to go there, but I sit down with them and look them in the eye and say, “Why are we here?” Then I stay silent and just let the room and the silence do the work.
