Four Buffalo Bulls

IN THE 1960S in Botswana, game licences were extraordinarily generous and ow-priced. A full package licence cost 25 Pounds for most species, including an elephant, a lion, a leopard and four buffalo. Clients generally wanted to take all available species and booked or30-daysafaris.

I remember one client who only wanted to shoot four buffalo, all big-bossed bulls, and take photos of live buffalo and other big game. I explained that he would have to buy the full package licence to qualify and that I would require him to take a 30-day hunt.

This safari took place towards the end of the dry season when buffalo would be more concentrated. I decided to take him to Jarwe Pan near Pandamatenga and the Wankie Game Reserve boundary, then to Chobe Camp on the edge of the Chobe swamp, near the Savuti Channel.
