Four Buffalo Bulls

IN THE 1960S in Botswana, game licences were extraordinarily generous and ow-priced. A full package licence cost 25 Pounds for most species, including an elephant, a lion, a leopard and four buffalo. Clients generally wanted to take all available species and booked or30-daysafaris.

I remember one client who only wanted to shoot four buffalo, all big-bossed bulls, and take photos of live buffalo and other big game. I explained that he would have to buy the full package licence to qualify and that I would require him to take a 30-day hunt.

This safari took place towards the end of the dry season when buffalo would be more concentrated. I decided to take him to Jarwe Pan near Pandamatenga and the Wankie Game Reserve boundary, then to Chobe Camp on the edge of the Chobe swamp, near the Savuti Channel. There were big herds along the swamps and plenty of
