Grow your own mielies

Most vegetable-gardening books will tell you that mielies (Zea mays) are not suitable for small gardens, but once you’ve tasted one that has been cooked within half an hour of picking it you will find at least 1,5 m2 for a mini mielie patch. Unfortunately, pots won’t work. The only thing is you’ll have to wait for spring to plant mielies (…or mealies, maize or corn).
