A DAY AT THE RANGE

I enjoyed reading your JAG File about taking a grandson to the firing range (“Simulation just isn’t as good,” January 2020, pp. 10-11). Shooting the M1 Garand sure must have been a “wake up” call, ha-ha! They do have a kick to them.

In basic training (back in the later 1950s), I got an “M1 lip” from shooting a Garand. I was thankful when I went to the 86th Engineers after basic, as I was issued a M1 Carbine. That was a lot easier to shoot and carry, as
