Bobotie in pastry

Bobotie is a classic South African dish of spiced minced meat and an egg-based topping. This twist on the traditional recipe is a must-try, especially as winter creeps nearer.

Serves six

A small quantity of oil1 onion, chopped5ml (1 tsp) fresh garlic, chopped2,5ml (½800g beef mince20ml (4 tsp) curry powder5ml (1 tsp) salt1ml black pepper30ml (2 Tbsp) chutney15ml (1 Tbsp) fine apricot jam15ml (1 Tbsp) Worcestershire sauce5ml (1 tsp) turmeric15ml (1 Tbsp) brown vinegar125ml (½ cup) sultanas3 slices of fresh white bread125ml (½ cup) full-cream milk400g puff pastry doughA small quantity of extra milk1 egg
