In John and Margaret Noakes’ garden in Hertfordshire, a range of rare and wonderful snowdrops covers the ground with flowers as late winter turns into early spring. But the snowdrops are just the overture as a chorus of other early flowers soon joins the show – cyclamen, iris, winter aconites – followed by daffodils and fritillaries, before a selection of summer- and autumn-flowering bulbs. “This garden isn’t just for snowdrops,” John is keen to point out.
