Backstamp provides painting clues

Q I got this painting at an estate auction. It was in a plain brown wood frame. I took it out to clean the glass and noticed it was stamped on the back. It says, “Expositions Universailles 1855-1900 Medailles de bronze,” but after that it is unreadable, except for perhaps the word Paris.
