As he lay asleep next to me, I stared at my partner’s face.
I examined the colour of his hair, the shape of his jawline, and the shape of his nose and eyes.
I wonder if our baby will look more like him or me? I wondered.
It was October 2013, and Leigh, now 35, and I had recently started trying for baby.
We’d known each other as teenagers, but lost touch when we went to university.
I’d gone on to be a teacher, while Leigh worked as a financial trader, and when we reconnected on Facebook a few months earlier, we fell head over heels.
I’d always wanted to be a mum, so Leigh and I started trying for a baby right away.
I hoped that everything would fall into place.
