In the early hours of 6 August 2017, the police were called to a beach bar in Lake Worth, Florida.

Hours earlier, a group of friends had been drinking, dancing and laughing the night away.

Juan Javier Cruz was enjoying an evening out with his friends and his cousin Pedro Cruz.

But it was when one of his pals, Jimenez Tepeque, exchanged numbers with another man in the bar that all hell broke loose.
