    WHITE-EARED KOB

    • Where? The Sudd, South Sudan/Ethiopia

    • How many? 800,000

    • Distance covered? 1500km

    • When? December-May: the kob move east from the floodplains of the Sudd, Bandingilo National Park, through Boma National Park (both in South Sudan), and into the western swamps of Gambella National Park in Ethiopia.; June-November: the migration goes into reverse as the herds head west again.

    • What’s occurring? The white-eared kob are on the move year-round — a slow journey driven by the constant search for new pastures. Densely packed columns of kob (which, when they are joined in their quest by tiang antelope and Mongalla gazelles, can top 1.2 million animals) can stretch a mind-boggling 80km long by 50km wide.
