Kikuyu grows best in areas that receive more than 700mm of rainfall. It is unadvisable to grow kikuyu in soil that is subject to waterlogging, in heavy, bottomland soil, or in sandy or very shallow soil. Other grass species are better suited to these situations.
Kikuyu can be established using either vegetative material (runners) or seed. Runners get the grass off to a faster start. Seeded cultivars are not recommended, as the kikuyu
