FOR THE CAKE
150g (5½oz) soft dark brown sugar
100g (3½oz) golden syrup
100ml (3½fl oz) milk
50ml (2fl oz) orange juice (about ½ an orange)
grated zest of 1 orange
1½ tbsp treacle
1 tbsp mixed spice
150g (5½oz) cold unsalted butter, cubed, plus extra for greasing
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
2 large free-range eggs
