Come Saturdays you’ll always find Helen Lewis on the hockey pitch. The university research director relishes the intense 75-minute run around, as well as the training sessions. After years of struggling with her weight, Helen has managed to lose five stone – and keep it off – since she took the sport up in 2016.

Long-term weight loss like Helen’s is rare. ‘Maintaining weight loss is really difficult, complex and frustrating for people who are trying,’ says Aisling Piggott, spokesperson for the British Dietetic Association. ‘Unfortunately, there is no magic answer.’
