In 1969, Ford’s new Capri was famously billed as The Car You Always Promised Yourself. That never made much sense to me, but the Blue Oval people had sold nearly two million by the time the last one rolled off the line in 1986, so I guess that it must have been true.
The original intention was to produce a stylish and sporty car, yet with family saloon practicality. A Cortina in drag as one wit described it, and it was hard to argue with them because the Capri really was a Mk2 ‘Tina
