COVID-19: a catalyst to drive new technology in farming

The COVID-19 pandemic has ravaged businesses and spared no industry in agricultural value chains around the world. Following the closure of markets and the restrictive policies on the movement of consumers in many countries, farmers experienced a number of difficulties in marketing their commodities.

In Kenya, for example, horticultural farms were reported to be running low on cash, while in East Africa, a tea auction that should have taken place in April was postponed, leading to massive income losses to farmers and traders.
