The KING of the MIDDLE GROUND

I don’t know about you lot, but when Aprilia unveiled their all-new RS 660, I was in two minds. Thinking of everything from the peach of an RSV4 to the legendary RS250s of yesteryear, it’s got some big ol’ boots to fill using that RS name, but you see, I’m really not a fan of mini-twin type middleweights; you know, those shopping trolleys that pretend to be a sportsbike (cough, Ninja 650).

But then again, if they could make a proper little middleweight, you know, something that was just dialled down a little in terms of aggressiveness from the likes of a proper Supersport machine but could still hustle, look good and be jam-packed with tech, well it would absolutely clean up... and thankfully it looks like they have with this: the RS 660. Not only does it look like a million dollars with its sharp lines, aggressive lights and even lil’ wings (which Aprilia say help not only aero, but heat dissipation too), but on a sliding scale, Aprilia tell us that the RS 660 sits much closer to Supersport than shopping trolley. It’s a very fine line to cross, but it looks like they’ve hit the nail on the head, and created a whole new segment in the process.
