A garden saved by a prince

Dumfries House is set in a 2000-acre estate in the Ayrshire countryside. Many tourists, both UK and international, visit this picturesque setting to tour the grand country house or to stay in the luxury lodges on site, but, for others, the expansive grounds and gardens are the focal point.

In 2007 Dumfries House, its grounds and contents were to be auctioned to the highest bidder, until the estate was saved for the nation by HRH Prince Charles. Today, Dumfries House is run by the Prince’s Foundation, and His Highness’s passion for sustainable gardening, organic produce, and local seasonal fruit and veg are part of its gardening ethos.
