have been left struggling to afford the rents on their plots after steep rises that, in some cases, have tripled or even quadrupled fees. Reader Eleanor Morgan wrote to (, March issue) to tell us that Hounslow Borough Council in London plans to increase her plot rent by 400 per cent, which means she has to give up her allotment after 18 years because she can no longer afford it.
