Christine Feehan has never been a disappointment with the "Carpathian" series. I recommend these books to anyone.

I really enjoyed this one. It was super short compared to the others in the series, seems to be written as a novella. I like that she encorporated more species into this one and new climate and didn't stick with the stereotypical vampire/human affair. The main characters were likeable, there was enough action to move the storyline along and could easily have had more written.

A lovely ending for the sisters of the jaguars! What a faith that has befallen their race, that the jaguar’s men to take such a wrong treatment towards their women and girls. To have treated their race without honor, care, or love. Is very sad to see the male mistreat their own without any care.
I give this author work here five starts another great impact.

This was actually a decent installment in the series, and it's an introduction to the South American Ancient brothers. Most of them are jerks, but Riordan is actually a fairly good guy, and this novella was nice. We get to see Jaguar shapeshifters, and Juliette is a refreshing change for a lifemate. This is Riordan and Juliette's story, and while it doesn't advance the series arc very much, it's a good one to read.

I finished the book in like 15 to 20 minutes it is just so short and normal.
    and I guess I didn't like it.

If you are a twelve year old girl who thinks that Edward from Twilight is dreamy, then you might enjoy this "book". I love comics, I love vampire stories, you would think that mixing the two would be great. This book proves that is not always the case. So sappy and crappy...It is hard to tell the two main characters apart, other than her boobs, which was annoying. Also, he is not a vampire, he is a Carpathian who will become a vampire if he loses his memory of love or his lifemate. She is a werejaguar who frees the Carpathian and luckily happens to be his lifemate...Skip it completely and go pick up a real comic book like The Walking Dead or Strangers in Paradise or The Sandman.

Disappointing at best. Honestly I grew up loving comics like Richie Rich and Casper the Friendly Ghost and thought I would like this too but this is terrible. The characters look so much alike from the profile that it is hard to tell them apart and the little bit of story there is with it reads like "Me Big Strong Tarzan, U Little Jane, Me Taking UR Blood Now, Yes Please I So Dizzy, Now UR Mine" So my advice to all the Carpathian fans who are looking at this as an interesting addition to the series "Save your money and time. It is not worth it"

To begin, I don't read a lot of manga or a lot of graphic novels so I can't speak of the quality of this versus anything else in either genre. I bought it because I'm a Christine Feehan fan, and I'm reviewing it with other Feehan fans in mind.Riordan is a Carpathian warrior long removed from his homeland. Captured by evil humans under the influence of a master vampire, he is tortured and desperate. Juliette is a woman of the Jaguar people, a mysterious race of shape shifters who dwell in the jungles of South America. She discovers and frees Riordan. He is shocked to discover that she is his lifemate, the key to restoring emotion and color to his cold and dreary life. I think the artwork and layout gave this story a very unique and sensual feel. It follows the story of the original novella faithfully, but adds a vividness to the story. The story itself is action-packed and romantic. It fits in well with the series while offering something new. The Jaguar people, for example, are an intriguing feature. The book relies on the reader's previous acquaintance with and understanding of Feehan's Dark universe--most importantly, the rules of Carpathian culture. If you have not read the other Dark books, expect to be lost. Some readers may prefer the novella version. It can be found in the anthology Hot Blooded, and is a good alternative. I cannot recommend this to manga fans, etc. I do, however, recommend it to fans of the 'Dark' series who are looking to expand their collection.

i've read this anthology before, but it was a while ago, so I didn't mind revisiting. The first story - Dark Hunger by Christine Freehan - more life mates meeting, this time in the jungle and she, unusually, is sexually experienced and a shapeshifter, but he still treats her like a virgin... It was readable but barely. The last by Angela Knight - set in her mageuniverse. This time Lancelot meets his commupance with a woman who doesn't want to accept her grandmother's gifts - esp after she so cruelly withheld them from her mother.Started the Maggie Shayne one but it didn't pull me in. all in all, quite a forgettable book...

It is kind of hard for me to speculate what niche to place this in. While I enjoy both paranormal romances (and have read this particular short story before) and manga, I'm not really sure of the combination here. Looking at this from the manga perspective I can't say that I was wild about the artwork, although it is much better than some of the Westernized manga artwork I've seen in the past. It also seemed to me like it would be difficult to follow the story without having a background of who the Carpathians are from past experience. From my knowledge of the Dark series in generally I could figure out that ** means telepathic communication but I'm not sure if everyone would get this (unless there is a key somewhere in the manga I totally missed).Looking at this from the paranormal romance lovers point of view I could see this being interesting in a "oh, that's really different" sort of way. But, I think that one might be disappointed in the restrictions of the manga format to a reader used to their own way of visualization. For the more hardcore fan of a particular author/series it does offer a unique way to experience their world which I can see the draw of. However, for those with only a general interest in paranormal romances or a manga lover using this as an introduction to this genre/author/series I don't think it would work as well. But, that is just my opinion.Personally I thought the manga was done well enough all things considered, that is to say I didn't hate it anywhere near as much as the Avalon High manga (another manga-based-on-a-novel). The panels presented a straightforward reading format which made it easy to follow, the plot itself was interesting and the characters' personalities did seem to come through. That being said I felt that some of the actions/dialog came off a little cheesy in this adaptation where it didn't seem that bad in the original story.Unfortunately, after giving this one a shot I cannot claim that I will ever again be inspired to go out of my way to get another paranormal romance, or other novel, based manga.

Chained to a wall by the humans, caught in a trap surely set by a master vampire, Riordan was running out hope. Witnessing the men take more wild animals into the new research building, Juliette and her sister Jasmine needed to save the animals before they were tortured, finding not only animals but a man, nearly broke her heart. Binding themselves together meant one big family. Several months ago I read the novella version of this story, so I knew what was going to happen. I know several people that like to read Manga books and wanted to see what they were so I thought I would start with a story I knew and liked by an author I liked. This was my first Manga a will probably be my last, apparently I am not the type that likes this version of story telling. The pictures did not seem to fill in the information that I felt was missing, the print words were choppy and seemed to lack all the emotion that I am used to from the Carpathian books. I was disappointed (maybe since I already knew the story) that it didn’t offer more of the information that is needed to really understand the Carpathian men and their need for the bond. If I had just read this one, I never would have liked Riordan or the cousin Solange. I am sure this kind of work appeals to some people, but for me, I need more information. I can create the pictures in my head a lot better (IMO) than Imaginary Friends Studios did.

I bought this on the bargin table for $1 and have to say it wasn't worth spending much more than that. I don't read graphic novels so I am not real sure how to review this. After being rescued Riordan turns Juliette (who he believes to be his soul mate) into a vampire. Problem being she is also half jaguar who isn't real sure she wasn't to be anyones soul mate.I am guessing this is part of a series. The plot might have made more sense if I had read the other books in the series.

Dark Hunger by Christine Feehan is book 14 in the Dark Carpathian Series. I read this "short story" in an anthology, and this review is only for Dark Hunger.Riordan is an ancient and powerful Carpathian male living in the jungles of South America with his brothers. Trapped and caged by the same beastly Morrison Psychic Research Center that has been endangering the lives of all immortals throughout the series, Riordan will give his life before becoming the bait to bring in his brothers and others of their kind. Deep within the jungle, Juliette lives with her sister Jasmine and cousin Solange. On a mission to liberate wild animals from the Morrison Center's secret jungle lab, Juliette stumbles upon something she did not expect - Riordan. As Juliette frees him from his captors, Riordan realizes that he's found his lifemate, but Juliette has her own secrets to protect...As you may have noticed, I'm not a huge fan of the "short stories" in this series. Usually, the stories from the anthologies are just too short to be as good as the rest of the series. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE WITH Dark Hunger! It was really exceptional. Dark Hunger is vivid, and beautifully written. Feehan's writing is fluid and lyrical, and her style of multiple point-of-views is outstanding. I'm really intrigued by the "jaguar people" we've been hearing about for awhile now, and was happy to see a little more of them in this book. I can't wait to see what happens next, so I'm officially moving book 15 to the top of my tbr pile.

Hot Blooded is an Anothology of 4 steamy paranormal romance stories. First one is Dark Hunger. Dark Hunger is set in the Amazon. Juliette rescues Riodan only to find out he's a Carpathina. He is surprised to find she is from the Jaguar Race. Surprise to both, they are compatible in more ways than one.I love Riordan. He's not too overbearing and arrogant like his brothers Must be of being youngest. I do hope Zacharias and Nicholas gets someone for themselves like Jasmine and Solange.Poor Juliette. She is torn between her lifemate and family. The Next ones didn't excite me as Dark Hunger. Though the Warewolf story was interesting.

Juliette is one of the few females remaining to a dying people - the jaguar race who can shift shape between human and the great cat. She lives in the jungle with her sister and cousin, trying to protect the females of their race who are being brutally abducted by a group of rogue jaguar males. While breaking into a secret laboratory to release the research animals, she finds a man, chained and bleeding on a concrete floor. The man is Riordan, one of five Carpathian brothers sent our by Prince Mikhail's father centuries ago to protect the South American continent from the scourge of vampires. As soon as he sees her, Riordan knows he was found his lifemate. Juliette has to come to terms with what this means, heal Riordan's terrible wounds and rescue her sister, all packed into one 100 page short story. When I started this, I expected to be disappointed. In fact, my thoughts were along the lines of "Oh no, not another big cat shapeshifter". I was not pulled into the two "Leopard" books at all, and didn't think jaguars needed to be added to the mix. However, I have to admit that Feehan won me over. The story had more depth to it than I expected and I enjoyed it. My main complaint would be that I thought Jasmine's (Juliette's sister) fate was unnecessarily harsh. However, I kind of suspect she may turn out to be someone else's lifemate and what happened to her in this story will figure in that one. This is not a hugely memorable tale (or it may just be that short stories aren't really a medium that works for me), but it was a nice addition to the Carpathian mythos.

**** "Dark Hunger" by Christine Feehan. Carpathians meet Jaguars. I'd have liked to see more info about how/why the two races can/can't mesh, but I realize there wasn't space in a novella. Both the h/h have siblings who'll probably get more stories.**** "Awaiting Moonrise" by Maggie Shayne. Werewolf, voodoo, a cryptozoologist. I kept thinking this was by Rebecca York--it felt very much like her Moon stories. Nice story, but one that would have been better if it had been longer--I didn't really buy that the h/h fell in love so fast.**** "The Night Owl" by Emma Holly. Again, just too short. I'd been looking forward to Bastien's story, and I wanted to see more of it. Still, nice portrayal of a natural ruler who's wary of taking power.****½ "Seduction's Gift" by Angela Knight. Lancelot! Woo-hoo. Heroine's a cop, knows all about the magi and majae (sp?--I always get them confused--would have been nicer if AK had given them more distinctive designations from the beginning, but...), and in fact already knows Lancelot & that sex with him will bring her into her powers, so it makes the story fit better into the novella length.
