About this audiobook

Romeo and Juliet had the right idea. About dating the enemy, that is. They were true to their hearts.

Kaitlin Malone knows what it’s like to date the enemy. She was raised to hate the Crutchfields, and absolutely does—until she meets Bram Crutchfield. It turns out he’s a great guy, one she can talk to, share things with…even love. But when Kaitlin gives her heart to Bram, her world spins out of control. Soon the Crutchfields are her friends and she’s a traitor to her own family.

To make things worse, Bram was raised to hate the Malones, especially Kaitlin’s father—who murdered Bram’s dad. Bram doesn’t know Kaitlin is a Malone. If he did, he’d hate her too.

What’s a star-crossed lover to do?

The novel, Scribbler of Dreams by Mary E. Pearson encompasses the theme of holding a grudge is like holding ice, you become numb. In the beginning, Kaitlyn Malone, struggles with living/surviving her senior year at Twin Oaks, the highschool she currently attends. Her family, the Malones, hold a hatred filled grudge against the Crutchfield family because of Bram's father's death, and Kaitlyn's in jail. Throughout the middle she preservers through deciding what to do about her secret identity as Kaitlyn Hampton and her love for Bram Crutchfield. She also fights to find herself and her family because her father is in jail. Her love for Bram makes her look underneath someone's exterior and find the interior because that's what really matters in a person, however much you hate their family. By the end she has learned that love is a very powerful thing, and it helped with her family and the Crutchfield family age-old grudge. 223/223

I see a Parabel in it. Pride and Predjudice wrapped in a story for young adults. Not everything is right, only because our family or other people say it`s right. In the end it was a little overdramatic, but the message came across.I liked the adoration of Jenna Fox much better.

A modern retelling of Romeo & Juliet. Pearson's book was a quick read, though lack the real heartbreak found in the play that inspired her novel. It was all right, but nothing that I'd go out of my way to read again.

Modern day Romeo and Juliet:You know the story. Two families have hated each other all their lives, and continue the tradition by raising their children to hate each other. However, the children meet, not knowing the other is their enemy, and fall in love. It's a fresh spin on it- Kait starts a new school and feeling overwhelmed, spends her time writing in her journal. But who should she meet but a boy named Bram who also likes to spend his time in the shade, quietly drawing. The two are drawn to each other and all is going well until Kait finds out who he really is. Can their love overcome their family history? You'll have to read to find out! Overall it's a cute story, and though I don't expect one, I'd love to see a sequel. There are a lot of loose ends still laying around when the story finishes and I'd like to see what else could happen in Kait and Bram's lives.
