About this audiobook

Eleven years have passed since Alexa Hamilton left the South behind, fleeing the pain of her ex-husband's betrayal and the cruelty of his prominent Charleston family. Now an assistant D.A. in Manhattan, Alexa has made a name for herself as a top prosecutor while juggling her role as devoted single mom to a teenage daughter.

But everything changes when Alexa is handed her latest case: the trial of accused serial killer Luke Quentin. Alexa prepares for a high-stakes trial . . . until threatening letters are addressed to her beautiful seventeen-year-old daughter, Savannah. Alexa is certain that Quentin is behind the letters - and that they are too dangerous to ignore. Suddenly she must make the toughest choice of all - and send her daughter back to the very place she swore she would never return to: the place where her marriage ended in heartbreak . . . her ex-husband's world of southern tradition, memories of betrayal, and the antebellum charm of Charleston.

Now, while Alexa's trial builds to a climax in New York, her daughter is settling into southern life, discovering a part of her family history and a father she barely knows. As secrets are exposed and old wounds are healed, Alexa and Savannah, after a season in different worlds, will come together again - strengthened by the challenges they have faced, and with Savannah now at home in the southern world her mother fled.

A novel that will catch you off guard at every turn, Southern Lights is Danielle Steel at her electrifying best.

Nice fast-paced book about understanding and moving forward after deep hurt and mistrust in a relationship.

I was a bit surprised by how mellow this Danielle Steel book was. It tells the story of Alexa, a woman once married to someone from the south. Following an affair and a divorce, she moves to New York with her daughter and goes into law. A dramatic murder trial means that Alexa has to send her daughter back to the south for her protection. The story ends up focusing more on past relationships and healing them with only the last few chapters for a gentle romance. It was enjoyable to read but I was expecting the last few chapters to happen earlier or for something more dramatic to happen overall.

Great story with suspense and intrigue but as always with a Danielle Steel touch of class and heart all rolled into one.

Another good story which I thoroughly enjoyed. Not trashy and filled with a lot of junk.
Again a book that I would allow my teenage daughter to read.

Listened to about 11 seconds of it and I could not handle the narrator, I will have to find a hard copy and read this myself. He was absolutely awful ….

After the start of the book I was expecting it to be more about the Luke character, I honestly thought he was going to be proven innocent and someone else was the one sending messages to Alexa. Then as it went on, I realized there was no “mystery” at all to the book. I felt the ending was a bit rushed , she should have met the senator earlier and we could have seen that relationship blossom. I also feel the beginning of the book was kind of pointless. If you start out with the Luke character, he should have been a more prominent part of the book throughout. It could have just started with the trial, leaving him out completely. It was just a bit confusing to me. However, with that being said, I am not an avid Danielle Steele reader, more into mysteries, so my outlook is kind of skewed. I will say overall, I finished it, so I did enjoy it, but I will not be reading ALL of her books. It just wasn’t my cup of tea I guess, and it kind of took a while to get going

This was a good book , took me a little to get in to it. This is the story of Alexa a New York Asst. DA who is a single mother of a 17 yr old girl. She has love and lost her daughters father eleven years before , although she is bitter , she allows her daughter to have a relationship with Tom her father, which is good even though he is only allowed to see her when he travels cause his new wife , whom was also his 1st wife does not allow the daughter in their life. When Alexa takes on a serial killer case and her daughter starts to get death threats Alexa has no choice but to send Savahanna to her fathers house in Charleston. Savahanna barely knows her father , and does not remember her grandmother , has never met her little sister or step mother , and has not seen her half brothers in years and she is thrown in to the mix in the south after only remembering her New York life. She meets her little sister and lover her , meets her grandmother , gets friends at school and meets a boy, Falls in love all int he nine months it takes her mom to proscute the trial in New York its a book of love, life and forgiveness

I thought for sure that this DS novel would have more depth since there was some mystery involved, but nope. I thoroughly enjoyed the ex-husband & current wife characters. New wife was a first class demon! Was also nice to see the interactions of the different ages. Slow to get moving with the story, but a nice read.
