About this audiobook

The perfect companion to the #1 New York Times bestselling I Am Number Four series!

I Am Number Four: The Lost Files: The Legacies is the first collection of novellas from Pittacus Lore. Originally published separately, these stories are now together in one volume.

Lost Files: #1: Six’s Legacy is the captivating story of Six’s harrowing capture by the Mogadorians—and her dramatic escape.

Lost Files: #2: Nine’s Legacy sheds new light on how Nine became the fierce and fearsome warrior he is today.

Lost Files: #3: The Fallen Legacies reveals the riveting true story behind One, Two, and Three, the ill-fated members of the Garde, as told by one of soldiers sent to kill them.

Before they were hunted by the Mogs, before Number Four was next, the Garde were all just teens on an alien planet called Earth—discovering their powers, trying to stay hidden, and running for their lives. And now, their Legacies are our only hope.

The I Am Number Four series is perfect for fans of action-packed science fiction like the Fifth Wave series by Rick Yancey, the Maze Runner series by James Dashner, and Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game.

I've discovered lately that YA fiction is offering more inventive and well told stories than so-called adult fiction these days. This is the latest example supporting my experience. "They walk among us" has been told countless times in scifi fiction and films. In fact, the tv show Roswell had a similar story to this - alien teenagers coming of age on Earth. It is the details and characterization that make this worth while. John Smith is living on the run - he and a handful of others are the last survivors of their race and they are being hunted. They have to be killed in order, before their legacies (superpowers) manifest. The first three are dead, and now they have come for John. But, John's powers are finally emerging. Will it be in time? John thinks and acts like a typical teenage boy, which makes him easy to identify and sympathize with. The book is a bit slow in parts as readers watch him fall in love for the first time, and wrestle with his secret (which he wants to share so badly!). What makes the story really interesting are the details about his homeworld: what makes him special, the mysterious chest he and his guardian carry with them everywhere, and the mystery of the Loric Elders. Plus, what legacies will he develop? He will have many small powers leading up to the BIG ONE. Though it has some slow parts, the last third of the book is suspenseful and action-oriented when the hunters find John. I appreciated that the author didn't cop out by having his big power come out at the last minute and save them all. John barely survives the confrontation, and there are casualties. The book doesn't exactly cliffhang, but it's obvious there is much more to come. This book was optioned for film even before it was released. After reading it, I'm looking forward to the film. But even more for the next book!

This was a good insight to Six. I am looking forward to seeing Four and Six's adventures searching for the rest of the Garde!

I expected a lot more from this story than I got. The characters are too simplified and generic to be all that interesting, and that's saying something given that two of them (or three, I guess) are from another planet!

I read a LOT of young adult urban fantasy, so I have high expectations for teenage characters, esp. when the story is told in 1st person by a teenager. I don't expect them to have the wisdom and maturity of an adult, of course, but I do expect them to have the kind of depth, complexity, and originality that makes them so appealing to so many readers. John and his friends are nice enough, but they're basically cookie cutter characters that could fit into just about any bland, ordinary TV show or story about teenagers.

My favorite aspect of the audio narration was the narrator's voice for Henri.

My favorite character was Bernie Kosar, the "guardian angel" beagle.

My favorite part of the story was when it was over!

Picked up toward the end ... the last 50 pages renewed my hope for the next ones in the series and might have possibly changed my mind about reading the others.

I really enjoyed this book. I actually ended up reading this book after they had made the movie of it, and am undecided as to which is better. I think that they did an excellent job with the story line and the plot and I really enjoyed the book a lot. However, I personally felt like the book's ending was a little more drawn out. It had extra elements than the movie that I liked more, but the battle seemed to never end. However, in the movie, it had a much more abrupt ending, so I wish that there had been a more even ending. Still a wonderful book and I definitely would recommend it. Expecially to the girls who are done with vampires and need other strange options!

Rating: 4 of 5 I bought The Legacies (The Lost Files #1-3) last year right around the same time I received my pre-ordered copy of The Rise of Nine. For fans of the Lorien Legacies these "Lost Files" are a must read, and fans will breeze right through them; I did, in just a few hours. Since the characterization in this series hasn't been its greatest attribute, these backstories really helped develop Six, Nine, One, Two, and even the son of a Mog general. I look forward to reading Secret Histories (The Lost Files #4-6) in July/August 2013.

It was so refreshing to read Lorien stories that weren't from John's perspective at all! I did enjoy reading these stories as I'm so intrigued by Loric-Mogadorian fight and I felt this was a fitting companion to expand on the individual stories of the rest of the Garde, other than what we have gained from the series itself. Note that this book, though set before the main series, is best read after reading the previous books (#1 - #3) that were published before this one, mainly as the author doesn't explain anything about the Garde, the Loric or their fight with the 'Mogs', which I was glad of. What I was not glad about was "Pittacus Lore" (we all know it's you, James Frey!) and his ridiculous attempts to add romance/love stories/possible love stories/even just crushes to every single backstory (or current - but that's another review!). It. Is. Just. Not. Necessary. I understand the lure of human relationships, even friendships or connections, but guys, c'mon. YOU ARE IN MORTAL DANGER. I can maybe understand One, she had no idea just how much danger she was in. But Nine? Really? Guys how about the protection of our races? Clearly both humans and the Loric are in trouble, why don't you do what you were sent here for and keep yourselves alive? Don't argue that you're only human - because you're not. You are supposed to be more than that! Pull your heads in!That being said, Adam the Mog was quite an interesting character. A bit of a speed through of the find and murder of Two and Three, but interesting to see it through the eyes of a character not yet encountered this way. Looking forward to seeing more of that! (And less of John...)

Maybe my mistake was to see the movie first. But in general, books are better than the movies...There are exceptions to the rule apparently. The story itself was interesting. The premise was good and I wanted to learn more about the characters. The main problem was the writing. It felt emotionally flat and too descriptive. I skipped a good portion of the second half...

It's shorter than Nine's legacy and not as entertaining or action-packed. Basically, it doesn't leave a lot to the imagination and I felt that this story could'vw been so much better.
Add to the fact that in the Power of Six, Six actually gave John a summary of her experience so this novella was uncalled for.

It is the story of an alian (n4) who with 8 other alians and their "teacher" came to earth because their planet was destroid by other alians (Mogadorians). their are the only survivers. To kill them, the Mogatorians have to kill them in order. Number 1,2 and 3 are dead so he is next. To protect themeself, they have magical power (legacies). They were young when they came to earth so they are developing their legacies.

I don't know about a review but here I go, I love the movie and it wasn't until a friend of mine told me that this was a book series that I decided to read it. I do not know why I am surprised that the book is way better, I books usually are . I can't believe they left so much out of the book in the movie, the whole back story about their planet and the time he spends in Paradise, Ohio getting to know Sarah and Sam plus his bond with Henri, I just loved it and I loved the fight scene it gave it so much more meaning and perspective. Can't wait to finish the rest of the series.

Teen fiction; action-adventure. I wanted to like this book, but even though Neil Kaplan did a decent job with creating the various character voices, I found the writing tedious. The explanation of the Loriens' battle and escape from the Mogadorians took forever, and things (such as the reason the Loriens didn't hide in big cities) were explained more than once.

For the longest time I passed on this when I saw it in my recommendations but I'm glad I gave it a chance. I normally like Fantasy books, not so much Sci-fi, and I found this to be an easy read and it was very easy to continue on to figure out what was gonna happen next.

This book has action and adventure and enough mystery to be interesting.
    Overall a very good book.

    READ IN DUTCH

I guess when all you have to do is be quite and don't get noticed by the aliens hunting you down the alias John Smith is definitely going to work, because there is no way that is going to look suspicious at all!

"John" is one of a set of nine aliens, driven from their home planet into hiding on Earth. They have one rather strong form of protection. They have been assigned a number and can only be killed in that particular order. Must have been a real let down to be number one...

The story doesn't always makes a lot of sense, but is a fast read and as such quite enjoyable.

Action-packed, very much YA, quite enjoyable. The whole ‘can only be killed in order’ didn’t make sense and wasn’t satisfactorially explained. I was given books 2 and 3 so borrowed this one from the library.

Solid sci-fi. Actually, this isn't even one of my preferred genres, but I was still thoroughly engaged. I'm kinda really liking the whole plot that's set up here, and it's going in an interesting direction. Now, granted, there are some holes, but I felt as though I needed to go out of my way to even notice them with how engaged I was in the narrative.

I really enjoyed this book, although I felt that some of the writing felt a little juvenile. I attribute that, partially, to it being from the point of view of a 15 year old boy, which I am not accustomed to. It had a wonderful plot that left me searching to find if there would be a second book, and there was plenty of back story which I love. There were a few grammatical errors that I saw, but that doesn't bother me too much so I was still able to enjoy the book despite that.

I Am Number Four features an intense storyline that is hard to put down, that makes you like the characters and makes you wan to see what happens to them next. Although the fight sequences make it a little hard to read, by way of losing the voice of the author and reading more of history than action.

I'm still debating whether I like he movie or the book more. I found the first 150-200 pages of the book utterly boring, however I could not put it down no matter how hard I tried for the last 100 pages. The suspenseful points in there book were ruined by foreshadowing and common sense, even without the background of the movie you had a window into what was going to happen next in what would have otherwise been suspenseful points of the book.

If you have already seen the movie and left wanting more, definitely read the book and stay tuned for the next book (The Power of Six). I feel that Pittacus Lore is a good story teller and the next book will no doubt be good especially since you won't have the boring introduction into the characters unique lives.
