About this audiobook
Katharine Lawrence has no idea what hit her. The attack came out of nowhere. Only hours earlier she had been enjoying a girls-only weekend with an old college friend. Now she finds herself lying bound and gagged on her kitchen floor, staring with terrified eyes at her friend Lisa while two masked gunmen search her house for—what? She doesn’t know. She knows only that, unless they can escape, whatever it is they are searching for could end up getting both her and Lisa killed.
But Katharine’s nightmare is just beginning. When she awakens in the hospital, her nose crushed, her body battered, her brain tells her that things aren’t right—and it’s not the attack that’s disorienting her. She doesn’t recognize herself when she looks in the mirror: her slim body, her manicured hands, her blond bob. And the smiling, handsome doctor at her bedside—Dr. Dan Howard—is familiar, but in a totally unfamiliar way. Perhaps the trauma of the attempt on her life has given her some kind of weird amnesia. She’s twenty-nine, the special assistant to the head of the CIA, and she’s lucky to be alive. She also knows she can trust no one.
Acting on instinct, Katharine runs for her life, with Dan, her newfound protector, at her side. By turns grateful and unnerved by his presence, and unable to shake a feeling of profound dread, she allows him to spirit her to a secluded safe house. Instead of finding a haven, they stumble into a tangled web of government conspiracy, and Katharine is left confused, frightened, and desperate to uncover the truth. As the pair is drawn further into this shadowy world where almost nothing is as it seems, as fear gives way to a firestorm of attraction, the cat-and-mouse game grows more deadly, and soon both their lives are at stake.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Not sure I recommend this one. The middle section was aggravating - where I wanted the pace to be more normal, rather than so wordy and slow to develop. The very beginning and the concluding section were good. Could have been much better paced and cut down in length. Interesting characters. Complicated plot. Some suspense, and the obligatory hot love scene (not needed, in my opinion - but I know some readers like it included and was well written). Really hesitated about 3 stars, almost went with 2 instead. Fence sitting on whether to recommend, to be honest. Giving this a 3-star rating because of the final third of the book - which really did pick up the pace and was suspenseful and interesting.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5There are moments of suspense, moments of intrigue, moments when I was riveted, and then...there are moments -particularly through the middle- when I thought this book was never going to end. The edition I read was 390 pages. The quote "less is more" comes to mind.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I bought this book on a whim about 3 years ago, not really thinking I liked reading all that much, but just wanted to give it a try. Not only did I fall in love with the book, but I fell in love with this whole genre of reading and reading in general.
The story is engaging and leaves the reader entwined in the action searching for more information and not being able to put the book down until the next mystery is unveiled! Who is Katharine Lawrence? Why doesn't she recognize herself? What is going on with the mysterious hunky neighbor/Dr? Is someone trying to kill her? Who can be trusted?
This romantic thriller is a must read for book lovers and novice readers a like! I am very grateful for Karen Robards amazing works which made me fall in love not just with the characters, but with reading! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I LOVED this book! I felt as though it was very well-written, lots of twists, and I especially enjoyed how you got to discover the truth with the character without anything being given away by narratives from other characters.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Starts out great then went downhill Fast!I'm glad this novel was given to me by good friend to read. I'm still wondering how this mediocre story got published. Well, maybe I shouldn't wonder because there are some real dozzies (hope I spelled that word correctly) out there being promoted as bestsellers. When I started reading Obsession the plot unfolded and kept my interest and I felt really excited and I was very intrigued with the story. I read on and then my senses started to sour and then they turned off. At the very end I got a brief thrill. But overall the story was big let down. I don't understand why, because Ms. Robards is certainly capable of writing a decent romance/mystery novel. I won't say it's a terrible book, but if you have enjoyed all of Robards novel I would think that you will enjoy Obsession.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5It's extremely difficult to write a book in which the heroine is unsure of her own identity. Karen Robards shouldn't have tried it. This is a frustrating mess for the reader, who gets as much of a headache as the character has.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a page turner. Woman suffers a home invasion and roller coaster ride of who do you trust and tries to work through her own shaky amnesia. The ending was disappointing and very implausible.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The novel started out well, but simply dragged on too long. Plus, the ending didn't make much sense. I'd give this one a pass.
