      Aren't writers supposed to get better as they write?
      Ok plot but the writing was lacking.

      I enjoyed this book but I'm not sure why. It wasn't really good, it wasn't bad either.

      The beginning was rather slow. I was waiting (and skimming a little bit in the meantime) for the story to begin. And then the romance part was definitely too quick. I believe they have sex too early, I didn't find the feelings between them. Then, out of sudden, everything stops for some silly reason and even sillier doubts. On top of that Finn suddenly changes his mind and decides that he loves Peyton and proposes to her. I just couldn't found that love between them.

      The suspense part was interesting but without some mystery element it wasn't really grabbing. There was no surprise in it and even though it was based on death threat I didn't feel the thrill.

      Still, it was a quick and strangely enjoyable read. I am giving it 3 stars but not sure if it isn't too much.

      It is another Good Narration by Amy McFadden and another enjoyable full-body storyline by Julie Garwood. Characters brought a whole storyline together.

      I would have liked this book if the relationship didn't seem so uneven. Finn is gorgeous, Olympics gold medalist, top of his class, law school, community work with at risk kid, FBI agent, saves a town, can subdue a large man with one hand while texting, etc. And Payton is pretty. Yup, he's disgustingly perfect and she's nice to look at. She has other qualities but they don't seem to be considered important next to the fact that she's really hot.
      The rest of the book is simply not good enough for me to overlook the ridiculous portrayal of the main characters.

      I've been reading Julie Garwood forever. When I decided to scale down my book collection, I kept all my Julie Garwood novels. I started with her historical romance and have followed her into mainstream romance. I've loved them all.

      Can you see where this is going? Due to some eye problems on release day, I listened to the audio version. Not believing my ears, I then read the hardcover. It didn't change my mind. The audio version completed skewed the book for me.

      I'm going to do this in reverse.

      What I didn't like: The narrator for Hotshot WAS NOT what this novel needed. She was a cross between "surfer dude" and immature "Valley girl". I felt like I was listening to a young adult novel with the love interest robbing the cradle. The novel itself felt like it was all over the place. It didn't flow. Peyton and Finn's chemistry was almost creepy. She seemed so young and immature and he was not "the knight in shining armor" I'm used to in Ms Garwood's novels. There was no tension and what were supposed to be the funny parts felt contrived. If this had been the first Julie Garwood novel I read, I would never read another.

      What I liked: I found some of the secondary characters more interesting than Peyton and Finn. It had a "happily ever after" ending.

      Definitely avoid the audio version at all costs. I was so disappointed with the narrator I even looked her up to see what other books she had done. None I had ever read. I'm not sure what was going on with the selection of her as the narrator. I'm sure for other novels she is good but not for Hotshot.

      Normally I don't mind paying the price for my hardcover "keepers". This time I was extremely disappointed. Even if you are a die hard Julie Garwood fan, check this out of the library.

      Peyton Lockhart has had a crush on Finn MacBain since she was six years old. Finn saved her from a potential drowning and then taught her to swim. For most of her preteen life she considered Finn her own guardian angel. As Finn grew older and went away to college their friendship seemed to gradually dissolve away, but Peyton has never forgotten him. Newly graduated from culinary school, Peyton wants to find a job and strike out on her own. The only job seems to be an editor’s assistant at a culinary magazine miles away from home. Peyton accepts the job and moves away from friends and family. Unfortunately the job comes with some undesirable attention; the lecherous attention of her boss . . . her married boss. The work environment is filled with hostile and unwanted sexual advances from her boss and she is told that she can't file a complaint until she's been there awhile. She tries to go over her boss’s head to the company owner, her boss’s father-in-law, but is thwarted at every turn. Peyton's only recourse is to quit the job and go back home. Peyton returns home to find that her favorite uncle is giving her and her sisters a unique opportunity to strike out on their own. They have to take over the management of a resort hotel in Florida and make it profitable in one year's time in order to become full owners of the resort. It's an offer too good to refuse.Peyton had hoped that leaving the magazine would end her problems, but they seem to follow her and her sisters to Florida. After she's been shot at and had other close calls she resorts to calling her childhood guardian angel for help. Finn is now an FBI agent and he is just what is needed to keep Peyton safe.Hotshot is not just the title but the childhood nickname Peyton had given to Finn. She's hopeful that he'll be able to ride into town and save the day as he often did during her childhood. The problem is that there are so many fires to be put out: saboteurs on the hotel renovation, death threats (presumably from previous employers), oblique threats from potential hotel rivals, and family drama from an unwelcomed (and horribly spoiled) cousin. I don't know if it was just me, but the story wasn't as tight as I usually expect from this author. I actually enjoyed the storyline about sexual harassment. The unwelcome cousin I felt was a bit much and didn't really add that much to the story. I enjoyed the back story for Peyton and Finn, as well as their current developing relationship. I found Hotshot to be a quick read and it was interesting for the most part, but there was just something about the story that didn't quite fit in my mind. The beginning of the story and the end I found plausible and enjoyable, but the middle just seems to get a bit muddled.

A few bullets, a wedding and an early inheritance later, she's being protected by childhood rescuer and now-FBI agent Finn MacBain. Sparks, and bullets keep flying, but the happily ever after's a sure thing as always.So-so. The more I read of Garwood's contemporary romances, the more I wish she'd stick to the historicals.

      When Peyton's dream job in MN turns into a nightmare, she heads back home to TX with evidence of her boss's sexual harassment. And the boss can't let that evidence get out. Finn, an FBI agent in town for his brother's wedding, doesn't recognize his former neighbor whose life he'd saved from drowning when she was six. When he sees the bullet holes in her car, he wants the whole story. She's determined that no other woman will be this man's victim.Peyton and her sisters are offered an incredible opportunity. Their uncle owns a number of resorts and wants to move on to other things. If she, Lucy and Ivy are willing, they can take over Bishop's Cove in FL that is currently closed for renovations. If they can turn a 20% profit in the first year, it's theirs. Peyton's troubles with her former boss follow her there and they encounter a number of new problems with the resort. And because Peyton's life is in danger, Finn feels the need to be on hand.I've read every adult story this author has ever put out for decades and I want to know what happened. Yes, the story is a pleasant escape from reality, but the level of writing is not up to the author's former works. I've noticed evidence of this slide in the last few books, but this is the first where I never felt emotionally connected to the story's heroine.There is some humor, but it's pretty light, not the laugh out loud scenes she used to write. I miss the fun, chaotic scenes she's known for. The characters just aren't fleshed out as well as she normally does. There is a great deal going on in this book and some of it feels choppy with many situations glossed over.My enjoyment of the story seems to come more from reading the latest release of an author whose works I've always looked forward to, and less about the actual story itself. Although I did like Peyton's determination to prevent her former boss from hurting others, the idea of Bishop's Cove and the sexual tension. And I have to admit that I enjoyed the early antics of Finn and his brothers.

      I loved this book! From the beginning when the author is describing the MacBain boys and their propensity for trouble and bottomless stomachs to the very end when Finn proves he is still a Hotshot, I enjoyed every word.Peyton is a woman at a crossroads and looking for a direction in her life. After a disastrous experience as a food critic for a magazine, she runs into her old neighbor Finn at his brother’s wedding. Finn is a real Alpha hero, used to being in charge, perfect at everything he does, total hottie and nice besides. Years ago he saved Peyton from drowning and she crushed on him for years but she is finally over it-yeah right! They get together when the harassing lecher she fled from at the magazine sics a killer on her to keep her quiet about his actions and Finn’s protective side is aroused.The chemistry between Peyton and Finn is off the charts even as he fights it tooth and nail. Finn is not interested in the long term and tells Peyton so, but he finds himself being drawn back to her over and over. Peyton is smart and funny and gives Finn as much aggravation as she can to keep her heart from breaking even as she is falling in love with him. I really enjoyed the dialog between them and the sexy scenes were pretty good too.There are several secondary characters that are very well fleshed out in this book and integral to the plot line. I particularly liked Peyton’s sister Lucy and her fighting/romance with Christopher. The villains are really nasty except for Peyton’s cousin Debbie who makes me think of a comedic version of one of the real housewives. Every time I read one of the books in the Buchanan-Renard series, I want to go back and read them all over again! Each book stands alone but it is a fantastic series and this latest book is a great addition.

      Peyton and her sisters have just inherited Bishop's Cove on one condition. That they turn the hotel around and show profit by the end of one year. After quitting her previous job (due to some serious sexual harrassment from her boss), Peyton is more than ready for this new job opportunity. However, she can't quite leave the past behind until she is sure her former boss is no longer in a position to harrass future employees. (Even though he isn't too happy about her trying to blow the whistle on his harrassing way and is proving he will go to great lengths to keep her quiet.) Not to mention working to revive a hotel while a few people are intend to see it fail.After running in to Peyton at his brother's wedding, Finn MacBain can't seem to forget her. And he knows she is in trouble when he notices bullet holes in her car bumper and his FBI training confirms they have recently been made. After Peyton gives in and asks/accepts his help handling her former boss, the attract between the two prove more than either of them can deny.I really enjoyed this book! This is Nora Robert's contemporary romance with a bash of mystery/suspense as expected. The chemistry between Finn & Peyton is hot, even if the mystery/plot is a little predictable. I received this book in exchange for an honest review from Netgalley.
