About this audiobook

Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890 - 1937), who wrote as H. P. Lovecraft, was an American author who achieved fame after his death for his groundbreaking works of horror fiction.

In "From Beyond", a maniacal scientist develops an extraordinary machine which enables humans to tap in to a range of additional senses which allow him to perceive whole new dimensions of the cosmos.

But that ability brings with it a vulnerability to unknown and malignant forces which exist 'beyond' but which now equally have access to our world. As the monsters 'from beyond' close in, there is only one way to escape....

Cannot stand this narrator. Almost sing song which is irritating when someone tries to raise the pitch at the end of every sentence. It’s like she’s constantly asking a question. Ugh!!!

The concept of this story has five authors write one chapter each. Each of the authors has their own distinctive style, and so the story is a little uneven, but a lot fun to read. Each of the authors were masters of their craft in their day and I just wonder what a book written in the same format by today’s authors (King, Rowling, etc) would be like.

Several writers contribute towards this supernatural short story. Robert E. Howard's involvement is unfortunately minimal. I suspect the tale would've been much more upbeat had he been more apparent. Lovecraft's section proved especially tedious in this monotonous yarn about a man being transported to another world via a cube he discovers. There are some clever elements towards the end, hence my rating the piece 2 stars instead on 1, but overall I found this too slow-paced and mundane.
