Description

Linden McGregor is tall, rugged, and gunslinger handsome-a helicopter pilot with a Scottish brogue and charm to spare. He's also one of Stephanie Robson's best friends and has fit into that box for as long as she's known him.

Beautiful, funny, and an ambitious businesswoman, Stephanie Robson is one of Linden McGregor's best friends and has fit into that box for as long as he' known her. But some relationships can't be boxed, can't be classified, can't be tamed.

Back in their mid-twenties and tired of the competitive hit-or-miss dating scene of San Francisco, Steph and Linden made a pact to marry each other if neither one of them are in a serious relationship by the time they hit thirty.

It sounded like fun and games at the time but as the years to thirty tick past and lovers come and go out of their lives, the pact becomes larger than life.

Sex is inevitable. Friendships are tested. Hearts are on the line. The pact is about to change everything.

À propos de l'auteur

From a rock music journalist to a New York Times & USA Today bestselling author for The Pact, Where Sea Meets Sky, The Artists Trilogy series, and over 20 other books, Karina Halle has seen a lot of the world. Luckily, all the years of dabbling in different careers and traversing the globe has given her the perfect background for her stories. Whether it's writing horror romance, romantic suspense or contemporary romance, Karina manages to combine very real people and relationships with very edgy circumstances. When she's not writing about flawed characters or chilling situations, you can find her on Salt Spring Island, BC, drinking wine in her 1920's farmhouse with her husband and their adopted pitbull.

The start of the book was really good. It had a really great build up from their friendship stage up until they became lovers. But once they're in that 'lovers' stage, it kinda became...less? I don't really know how to phrase it but the conversations became cheesy and...odd. Or maybe that's just me, I don't know.
Another thing is, I didn't really like how the characters developed. In fact, I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED by that one character because I felt like he was used as a cop out. And for me, it didn't really work. The emotions coming from him at one point about 80% in was genuine, then it turns out that it was just an excuse so that everybody can have a happy ending. I mean, I'm all for HEA but I want one that's achieved genuinely. One that the characters deserve.
Heh. That's all. More than half of it was good, though.

I have to admit that I was skeptical about this book's potential quality when I picked it up. Not because of the cover, but because the books and movies that I've come across with this kind of plot have not always been that great in my opinion. This book most definitely surprised me; it was beautiful, heart-wrenching, and heartwarming. You could feel the emotions radiating off the page, whether they were sadness or happiness, hate or love. Great book and though I'm not sure I want to read it again (I rarely want to reread books that pull at my heartstrings as this one did), I'm extremely glad I read it.

When two best friends become more than just friends, the third will ultimately be hurt. But hurting someone you love can hurt you more than you realize. James, Stephanie and Linden all have lives outside of their friendship. But a secret crush has Linden tied up in knots over Stephanie. James holds his feelings close to his chest and won't let our that he secretly still has feelings for Stephanie. And Stephanie just wants someone to put her first.

This would have been better if there was grovelling. I hate it when the h just melts, loses her mind and gets back together with the hero after a break up without him having to explain, show remorse or atone for his betrayal and stupidity.

This book features a H who has the emotional maturity of a toothpick.

Also this story got tidied up in a hurry. I wish that conundrum towards the end got addressed more elegantly and not just have the author have one main character say “oops, i made it up!”/“oops, Im a sociopath”.
