About this audiobook
When his family packs up and moves from the city to a small town deep in the Wisconsin countryside, 15-year-old Wil Neuton makes an exhilarating discovery. He finds a small island on a nearby lake, a place where he can be alone and learn to know nature-and himself. On his island, he can write, paint, and watch the loons and fish in the lake. Wil can't stay away from the outside world forever, though. Sooner or later, he must return and face the bully determined to fight him and his bickering parents, who worry when Wil decides to stay on the island indefinitely. Can Wil bridge the growing gap between himself and the rest of the world? Lyric and reflective, Newbery Honor-winner Gary Paulsen's tale displays all the adventurous spirit and wholesome optimism that have made his books so popular.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The Island is a tale of discovery, of a young teen spending his days on a small island, observing and meditating upon what he sees, and how it makes him feel. Wil writes and paints, while his family and the locals try to figure out what is "wrong" with him. An interesting and thoughtful read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this book couldn't stop reading . The book started off with a boy named Will Neuton, he was moving away from all his friends. He was moving to Pinewood. His house was really small, there were lots of misuqitoes. He was getting bit by tons of them.He found an island that looked like a horse shoe, and he made a friend named Sarah. They both became great friends, and they had an amazing adventure on that island.Studying nature and having fun.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is the story of a 15 year old boy.
Takes place right after he has moved yet again to a new town. There is tension in the house between the parents. There is tension due to the move and their place in the world.
The boy finds a lake.
In the middle of the lake is an island.
He is drawn there.
He goes to the island and he learns. He learns who he is. He learns about nature. He learns about the world and his place in it.
He goes to the island to write, paint, meditate & to learn.
Until he just doesn't leave the island.
This is his story.
It is different than the other Paulsen books that I've read but you can still tell that it's a Gary Paulsen book.
Very very good.
