I liked this one it is very much erotic and full of very vivid narration from both characters that were more intertwined with so much love and act that is consuming. The journal of discovering each other and their passion for one another, for family and for each other lead to much debt of discovering. Rafael De La Cruz in his ways to help their family members to regain their brother's children before he meets his life-mate. Her name is Colby Jansen. Right there, it changes his entire life. The same way he runs into a childhood friend who has fallen to the call of evil. He almost lost his life while he was trying to kill the vampires. But Colby Jansen did not allow him to go she worked to save his life and this time she finally gives herself completely. They could get rid of the vampire and he took her home back to the rain forest.

At first i wanted to throw this book repeatedly against a wall for just how dominating Feehan made this man, but for a change this one actually felt guilty for his pigheadedness so i was slightly okay with him at the end.
I still want her to for once write more than just one man who isn't a total control freak. /end rant

There's always that one guy. Rafael is that guy. This rapey, hard-to-take installment in the series left a bad taste in my mouth. We have a very strong, determined female lead, and she gets stuck with this utter douchebag for a lifemate. There is no point in this book, including at the end, where we don't feel sorry for her, for being fated to love and spend the rest of her existence with this jerk.We do get some series arc action - we meet Natalya, who is important, and Vikirnoff, who is trying to catch her (and is obviously her lifemate, we figured that out back in Dark Destiny). We are introduced to the evil vampire overlords, the Malinov brothers. We get a brief glimpse of Nicholas and feel sorry for him. But we never feel sorry for Rafael, no matter how kind he is to little kids. He's just a douche.Unless you're really in love with the series, this is one to miss. The only thing that really happens here is that we find out Natalya is actively avoiding hunters because she thinks they're going to kill her, because she has a Dragonseeker birthmark, and she was told they'd kill her for it - and Colby has the birthmark, too. Who's been spreading Dragonseeker genes among the human populace? Natalya believes she's Colby's aunt. And we see Vikirnoff being a good guy again. This is Rafael and Colby's story. Did I mention that Rafael is a douche? He is.

I don't really enjoy this series, but I liked the plot of this one the most. I've always thought the Carpathian males were skirting the fact that they force themselves on their lifemates. I liked that Colby called Rafael out on that.

This was the hardest book to get through in the Series. Once I got halfway I could finally finish it. To me Rafael was not good, but I grew to like him along with Colby.

Easy hot read for a lonely night. Loved it but not for the plot. It's main idea of mating even if the woman wants nothing to do with it is a bit of a down but it's a romance book of a semi-classic kind.

Dark Secret by Christine Feehan is book 15 in the Dark Carpathians series. High in the Cascade mountains, Colby Jansen fights with everything she has, to hold on to custody of her two young siblings Paul and Ginny, and to save the ranch their father left in her care upon his death. Day after day she works herself to the bone, just so that she can cling to the only way of life she's ever known. Misfortune seems to be darkening Colby's ever step, when Juan and Julio Chevez arrive to take their brother's orphaned children back to Brazil with them. Colby refuses to give up her brother and sister, until she comes face to face with the Chevez family's employer Rafael De La Cruz.Traveling from their homeland in Brazil to the Cascade mountains is a matter of honor for the powerful De La Cruz brothers. Nicholas and Rafael are powerful Carpathian hunters, sent to Brazil centuries ago to fight the growing evil of the vampire. They are tied to the Chevez family and can do nothing else but see to the protection of the family that has worked for them for centuries: the Chevez children must return home with their uncles, and the De La Cruz brothers will do whatever is needed to make Colby Jansen see to reason.Immediately upon meeting Colby, Rafael is able to see colors and feel emotions, something lost to him for centuries. Colby Jansen is his lifemate, there can be no other explanation for the new sensations flooding him. In most other Carpathian books, the reader can feel the deep suffering the hunter goes through when he finds his one true lifemate; the passion and love and rage etc. are terribly overwhelming. I didn't feel that in this book - something was definitely missing. Rafael was so cold throughout most of the book (except when in the bedroom.)In the other books I've read in this series, both lifemates "come together" and try to understand one another, at least half-way through the story. In Dark Secret, both Colby and Rafael were so dense and hard-headed - almost to the very end - it was very frustrating. They each lacked a certain warmth and compassion for each other that is always present in the series, and in the absence of this feeling, I found it hard to relate to them and just sit back and enjoy the book.

The wealthy, high and mighty De La Cruz brothers (Nicolas and Rafael) had come to the Cascade Mountains to take her brother and sister (Paul and Ginny) away from her (Colby Jansen ) and into the hands of the Chevez family. Even if they were their fathers family, she didn’t want to relinquish control and allow them to be taken to Brazil and away form the only life any of them had ever know. After Nicolas’ failed attempt to persuade Colby, Rafael was determined to gain her cooperation, as soon as he saw her working in the coral, his reason for persuading her changed. The colors and emotions hit him as he watched her work, realizing the danger around her he began to wonder which would be the more difficult battle, the one with the vampire or the one for Colby’s heart and acceptance.Book 15.…. A lot of the same characteristics as most of the other Carpathian books, the fight for Colby’s heart was much more strained. The resistance Colby showed was odd, some of the pages were awkward in the reading. Any lacking was more than made up for in the action and fight with the vampire. Rafael never said he was a gentle man, the emotions were so well written for this character, the anger and constant fight jumped off the pages. Loved the inclusion of Natalya Shonski, Vikirnoff Von Shrieder, the blanket from Francesca, as well as the mention of so many other characters that we have come to know so well.

They are Carpathians, not Vampires. Vampires are what they hunt. Through the centuries, a male Carpathian loose their feelings and emotions. If they give in to the darkness, they turn vampire. They will only see color and feel emotions again when find their life mates. Rafael didn't think it was possible after living two millenias and finally finding the girl he was destined. The girl, Colby Jansen, doesn't think she's the one for him either. It's a battle of wills as Rafael forces his passion and Colby forces true love.Surprise to Rafael, Colby is a Dragonseeker. The Dragonseeker's clan was thought to have perished already but it seems a few are scattered around the world. There are two Dragonseekers in this book. More about them will be revealed in Dark Demon. This book is alright. It got me hooked on the rest of the Dark Series.

Colby Jansen has been running herself into the ground for the last five years, keeping her late stepfather's ranch running in trust for her younger half-brother and half-sister. When their father's brothers arrive from South America, wanting to take the children back with them, Cobly is determined to keep her beloved sibilings in the States with her. Not even the imposing De La Cruz brothers, Nicholas and Rafael, are going to be able take Paul and Jinny away from her. Nicholas and Rafael are not exactly used to having anyone oppose their wishes, let alone a woman. They are both ancient Carpathians, send out by Prince Mikhail's father centuries ago to fight the vampires across the world. They and their three brothers went to South America, believing they would have no chance to ever finding their lifemates, but determined to do as their prince commanded. Both are close to losing their battle against the darkness, but are not yet ready to give up the fight. Rafael is stunned to discover Colby is his lifemate, but while she is instantly and greatly attracted to him, she is determined not to fall under his spell. At the same time, Rafael and Colby must cope with malicious attacks on the ranch, and the presence of a Master Vampire, one Rafael and his brothers knew long ago. Despite the potential of the love story in this book, I felt that the development of Rafael and Colby's relationship was the weakest part of the novel. It was particularly formulaic; Colby was determined not to succumb to Rafael and didn't really even life him, Rafael wanted to claim her at once and had to fight that instinct and his growing darkness while giving her time, and it seemed to happen over about two pages when Colby shifted from fighting him to accepting him fully. It is that latter that drives me nuts, as there often doesn't seem to be a sensible reason for the heroine's sudden reversal of attitude. It grows slowly and then, wham, it's over and she's completely his - but still going to stand up to him and argue with him. The side plots are what saves the book for me. We briefly meet Vikirnoff's lifemate again; it turns out she's related to Colby and can give her some information of Carpathian hunters. The bad news is that her information comes from an unreliable source and is dangerously biased. We learn more about the ancient wizards and there is a clear feeling that a lot of the long established situations in the books are going to be coming together soon, including the wizard's cave Jolie and Traian found, the history of the Carpathians, the further return of the Ancients Prince Vlad sent out and the dangerously powerful master vampires that have been turning up lately. This isn't the best of the Carpathian books, but it has important information in it that makes it worth reading. Colby and Rafael aren't bad lead characters either, but the development of their relationship could have been handled better. I know that my definition the Carpathian men are forceful and exceedingly alpha, but it all gets a bit much sometimes. It wouldn't hurt if Feehan could tone it all down a bit again, back to heroes like the ones we started with.

he 12th Dark book. Nice, in that the heroine doesn't just fall in line with the lifemate thing. But then she fell back on the old TSTL trick of being too "independent" to accept any help in protecting her brother & sister and being stubbornly ignorant. Argh. Hero was entertaining, though--clueless earnestness. And I liked the heroine again in the last part of the book. Really, if you just took out, say, the 3rd quarter of the book, where the heroine turned TSTL (in which the S could mean either stupid or stubborn--the effect's the same), I'd be much happier.
