- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The story line, it was so good it was hard to stop to do anything. I really enjoyed. Great book.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I had stopped reading this at the 70% mark, not sure why, but am going back through and finishing the ones I'd left hanging. It was fine. Not my favorite Tessa, but okay.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5The book was basically a repeat of the same story from the first book just in a different location. A “tough potty mouthed” cop saves the girl from “her wretched past he doesn’t approve of.” The author seems to think a man who exhibits jealous semi-stalkerish tendencies after knowing a girl one day is romantic and sexy. I don’t agree with that so I have huge issues with the book. The heroine is portrayed as strong and independent which seems to be a problem for the alpha-male cop. I almost didn’t finish this one. I have the rest of the ones in the series but it will be awhile before I step back into this world. The narrator was okay and I didn’t have any issues with their work
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I'm really liking this series. This one was great, but I still think there's this little bit missing for it to be a total 5 stars.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Holy Hotness!! An exciting, steamy read with some great characters. Homicide detective is new to New York, he is a hot, dirty talking alpha male who craves control. Ruby is street wise and daring and has been groomed her whole life as a pool hustler. When these two meet, the chemistry is intense and explosive.
This one will definitely keep you on your toes! Intense sexy times, and an exciting story make this one you will greatly enjoy. I recommend it. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Really enjoyable.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5HOT! Wow, I want my very own Troy! This is a really good, quick, and did I mention Hot? read. This is a short, face paced read, but it holds a lot of story. The sex starts early and keeps getting better throughout. One of the first things Troy says to Ruby.. "Next time you bend over a table, I'm going to wrap all that hair around my fist and pull your head back. I want to watch your eyes glaze over when I fuck you into oblivion."
Troy is a cop that has moved to New York to get over/away from a traumatic event in Chicago. Everyone sees the nice, quiet and hardworking guy in public, but..” Prince Charming disappeared as soon as they made it to the bedroom. He'd tried once or twice in the past to be the guy who whispered sweet nothings into a girl's ear when she came, but he'd never been able to keep up the facade. He'd rather be explaining in very explicit terms how and where he planned to take her next.” Troy is the perfect mix of tenderness and domination. He lusted hard and immediate for Ruby and his heart wasn’t too far behind. Feeling responsible for what happened in Chicago he wasn’t about to let anything happen to Ruby, if only she’d cooperate.
Ruby is independent, stubborn, and hides her vulnerability (even from herself). She meets Troy when she goes into a bar to hustle some poor guy out his money playing pool. It’s how she pays her bills and all she’s ever known. Ruby doesn’t trust or let anyone in easily. “I’ve let you in more than I’ve ever done before. With anyone.” Troy is a confusing challenge for her; she really wants him, his dirty talk, and authority in bed "You might get away with running that smart mouth to other people. But you won't get away with it here. If you continue to challenge me with every word out of your mouth, I will fuck you repeatedly until you learn to play nice."
Besides the wonderfully steamy sex this is a story of two people opening up and overcoming the past to fall in love. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a really good story with lots of great sex.
(I received a copy from publisher in return for an honest review.)
Also posted on Darker Passions - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was a nice hot novella with another dirty talking hero. Ms. Bailey definitely got a knack for writing those.
Favorite quote:
"Yes. But don't worry, baby." Before she could register his intention, he'd swung her up into his arms. "Even with your panties on, it'll still be the best sex of your life."
(A review copy was provided by the publisher through NetGalley.) - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I pimped the first book in this series to everyone who would possibly listen and I approached this one with much. However, I never expected to love it like the first. Nothing could be hotter than the first one, right? WRONG!! First, dear readers let me advise you of the things I discovered whilst reading this book...
1. Don’t read it in public. It’s too hot, you will become uncomfortable with everything.
2. Expect to look at police officers more closely to see if they are ridiculously good-looking
3. You may look at Pool Cues differently
I could wax lyrical about the characters but I’m not going to. They were both fantastically written as separate entities, with enough angst and baggage to make sure the path of true love does not run smoothly, but where this book stands out is in the chemistry that is created between the two characters. This author excels at creating scenes explicit enough to make your blood pressure rise, but with enough character development that the scenes develop the relationship being created. I fricking loved this book.
The chemistry in the book started building from the second they lay eyes on each other.
“So, blue eyes. Why don’t you stop staring and buy me a drink? I don’t want to dehydrate before you work up the nerve.”
I loved the sexual tension flowing under the banter of their first meeting, loved that he didn’t sleep with her on the first meeting and just adored the way he flipped from dream boyfriend to dream lover in the flip of a kindle button. Once they start the sexual side of their relationship, they just got dirtier and dirtier.
“I’m going to take you to my bed and pleasure the fuck out of you. But the panties stay on. It’s nonnegotiable.”
There wasn’t a scene between them that didn’t titillate and arouse; it was ridiculous how hot this book was. The added drama of the danger that she was in gave the later scenes an added sense of desperation that only added to the sexual tension between them... am I raving?? Sod it. I won’t lie to you readers; this book is positively filthy and I absolutely LOVED IT. I also loved that the author seemed to want to make a statement about everyone’s kink being different and equally acceptable.
I didn’t think that Tessa Bailey could surpass the first in the series but I am very happy to report I am wrong; I think this one is better. This book is so hot I had to put it down several times to catch my breath and, let’s be honest, for a woman who reads as much sex as I do I can honestly say that it takes a pretty raunchy book to do that. I loved the chemistry, I loved the characters and I loved the sex, pool cue related shenanigans included (I have to add a “sex-with-pool-cue” shelf on GR now J). If you need a book to get you in the mood, read this. It’s a sure thing.
