There's just something about a hockey romance that I cannot resist. I am not even sure why that is because while I like hockey, I am not a huge fan or anything but I love these books. I think that this book has just the right amount of sports worked into the plot to make everyone happy. Hockey fans will love all of the hockey references but the sport doesn't take over the story either. I found this book to really hard to put down and completely enjoyed everything about Hawke and Vale's story.The story opens 7 years in the past when Hawke was a young hockey player trying to make it big in hockey and Vale meant the world to him. Vale ended their relationship suddenly and never fully explained things to Hawke. They have both moved on with their life when their paths cross at Cold Fury hockey organization where Hawke is the new star player and Vale has just started as a trainer with the team. Neither one is fully prepared to revisit their feelings for each other.I liked the characters in this book a lot. Hawke was a big tough guy but he really seemed to know how to be there just when he was needed. He could be very alpha but he seemed to feel things very deeply and his feelings for Vale were very intense. Vale has changed a lot. She has really grown up in the years since she broke up with Hawke and now her focus is on caring for her father. She has a big heart but it takes some time for her to start to open up to Hawke again. I thought the chemistry between Hawke and Vale was amazing. From the moment they see each other again at the team meeting, it seemed like the sparks were flying. They just seemed to work together so well. The sexier times in the story well done. I liked how much emotion was shown through the characters actions. It was obvious to me that this pair had never quit loving each other early on in the story.I would recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance. This is the fifth book in the Cold Fury series but it could easily be read as a stand alone. Fans of the series will enjoy seeing all of the characters that have been featured in previous books but knowledge of prior books isn't neeeded to enjoy this story. I am looking forward to reading more from this series soon.I received an advance reader edition of this book from Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept via NetGalley.
Rating: 44 "Misunderstandings & 2nd Chances" Stars.Sawyer Bennett has quickly become one of my go to authors. Having thoroughly enjoyed a number of the other books in the Cold Fury Hockey Series, I jumped at the chance to read the latest installment. As usual, you can count on Ms. Bennett to deliver an entertaining and passion-filled romance. The pages practically turn themselves as the relationship evolves over a number of milestones and misunderstandings in this second chance at love romance. Moreover, we get a small glimpse at the continued HEAs of prior couples that we have come to know and love in the earlier books of this series. Hawke Therrien and Vale Campbell were once a wild young couple in love living in Sydney, Nova Scotia. For four years they were inseparable and were a permanent fixture on the party scene. Nothing was too wild and both chose to embrace life in all its glory by living on the edge. The fact that Hawke played ice hockey in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for the Cape Breton Oilers, and Vale's father was the trainer for the Oilers, just meant that in addition to their chemistry-filled attraction they also had a family connection which equally bonded them.Then Hawke gets drafted into the NHL and moves away. But the last thing he expected was for Vale to throw everything they had away, and basically dump him as he is about to board a plane, claiming she didn't love him. It broke him, but he moved on and started a new life focused on his career. That is until he walks into the locker room of his new team, the Cold Fury NHL defending champions, just to find none other than a completely reformed, Vale, who has also just joined the team as their new athletic trainer. Can Hawke set aside resentments of the past to explore the possibility of an even better future? Perhaps my only reservation on this story is that, in the end, it doesn't take very long to break through the mild illusion of suspense that permeates a large part of this story and the pained way that the couple's relationship develops and stumbles. Having figured out the "misunderstandings" quite early on, the story just seemed a little less complex than what I had hoped for. I almost wanted to slap the characters back into reality by whispering the inevitable revelations they seemed to be holding back and missing, but that would no doubt make a drastic change in how they approached each other and their future together. Nonetheless, the way that Ms. Bennett deals with the realities of devastating consequences and how it shapes the lives of, and leads to life altering changes, was expertly handled and rang true to me as an accurate representation of consequences that could lead to maturity and character development. Moreover, I loved Hawke's nature, which had a classic alpha-natured edge to it. Some of the things he did and said, were utterly irresistible and had me rooting for a HEA for him. All in all, Hawke is a worthy addition to the Cold Fury Hockey Series. It sounds like Max's story (the injured catcher that Ryker replaced) is up next, and I for one can't wait to read it! Rating: 4I love the Cold Fury boys and Hawke is another addition to this amazing series. The story begins when Hawke was a teenager and in love, the lucky girl was Vale. They had a wild time together and he thought she returned his feeling and she did...until she broke his heart by dumping him. He leaves to make his career big and finally he joins the Cold Fury's and Vale also has made a career for herself, she also has a job with the Cold Fury team...Mmm! thing could get uncomfortable here.Will they get back to together? of cause they do, but can they stay together? They have a lot of explaining to do before it's they can have a happy ending.I can never get enough of these guys, great meeting up with the rest of the team, always great fun and mentors. Can't wait for the next story!

I'm a sucker for second chance love stories. The one that got away and now you have a chance to redeem the errors of your youth and do it right. However, there is a lot of inability to trust and anger in the way of our Hero that makes it difficult to get to his HEA. I really fell in love with the heroine, Vale. She's picked herself up, moved on, taken on a difficult task and yet, is open to the possibility to love deeply again. Hawke and Vale's story isn't without it's ups and downs. Each one wants to let go of the past, yet struggles a lot. I found it intriguing that our Hero had the most trouble of 'let it go.' Usually authors give that to the female lead character. However, watching a man struggle with hurts of the past made the story different and captivating.
I am a huge fan of Sawyer Bennett's. Her writing is always flawless and storytelling is riveting. This new installment to the Cold Fury series does not disappoint. If you are a fan, this is definitely one to add to your bookshelf. If you have not had the opportunity to read any of her writings, she weaves the background to not let a new reader floundering. However, do yourself a favor and read the other books in the series- it's hockey hunk gold. 5 out of 5 stars

I have read all the 1st five books so far in this series, and this is my least favorite. I have disliked small things in the other books, but this is the first book that angered me enough I almost didn't finish it. I understand both Hawke and Vale being immature and stupid at 20, who isn't, but at 27, it is time to leave the stupidity and immaturity behind and be the adult you are supposed to be. I have had similar issues and have found its better to tell the guy right away, not punish them for years, and lie over and over by hiding things. That does no one any good. I wish both would have been adults throughout, instead of whiny children. I will continue reading the series because I love, love, love hockey (my husband is a stereotypical Canadian and has played the sport since before he could walk practically) and I will read any hockey related series. Plus, I have to know what happens with the Cold Fury , and all the characters I have loved so far, and the new ones I hope to fall in love with too. I was disappointed for sure with this book, but I do love the series as a whole.
Rating: 2Sawyer Bennett’s does it again with Hawke, the fifth book in the Cold Fury Hockey Series. Star defenseman, Hawke Therrien, is excited about being recently acquired by the Cold Fury. What he isn’t expecting is the girl who broke his heart over seven years ago, Vale Campbell, to be the team’s new assistant trainer. Hawke is a contemporary sports romance that takes place in Carolina. It is suitable for new adult and adult audiences.I love Hawke; both the book and the man. He is protective, determined, and talented. I like that Hawke played with Garrett Samuelson in Pittsburgh; that made for a nice little transition into the group of players from the previous books. Hawke and Val met and dated for four years in Sydney, Nova Scotia, where Hawke was playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for the Cape Breton Oilers. The two were very much in love but not necessarily the best influence on one another. They pushed each other to extremes and were a little too carefree. Their breakup was exceptionally painful on both sides. The two changed over their seven-year separation but never got over each other. Val matured considerably in their time apart. She dealt with a lot in this story. I like Val’s dad. He is a good father and man. I appreciate the relationship he had with Hawke. I enjoyed the plot. It was complex and believable. Sawyer Bennett did a great job making me feel emotionally connected to the characters. I love the Cold Fury Hockey Series. I cannot wait to hear Max’s story next. I highly recommend this series to anyone that enjoys sports romances. While this book works as a standalone, I would read them all and in order. Hawke is living the dream and it is a pretty perfect dream until the new team trainer is introduced. In an instant, Hawke’s dream life becomes something of a waking nightmare.Seven years after pushing Hawke Therrien out of her life with no explanation, Vale Campbell finds herself face-to-face with the one man who can crush her soul. The interceding years have been good Hawke but Vale can’t risk getting involved. Her dad is sick and needs her, she has a long-distance boyfriend, and working two jobs leaves little time for socializing. Unfortunately, Vale’s heart, mind, and body aren’t all on the same page and from the moment she locks gazes with him, all of those parts begin warring with one another. In order to do that, Vale has to come clean about the night she broke up with Hawke and hope he can forgive her.The Bottom Line: I’m still very much enjoying the Cold Fury series and while Hawke doesn’t have quite the same heat or urgency as the previous books in the series, it is still a very good read. Hawke and Vale have such a complicated and sad history that is laced with passion and intense sexual chemistry. Their lives were irrevocably altered in a single night and getting back to some semblance of happiness takes so much time and so much effort. Navigating life isn’t easy and with all the pressures surrounding Hawke and Vale, it is a wonder they can find the time to be together. This truly is a second chance at love story but it is also a past meets present read. In the end, everything comes together as it should with Hawke and Vale finding their long-awaited happily ever after.
