About this audiobook
Ambrose Worthing is no gentleman. He's a proud coldhearted rake who's determined to stay a bachelor forever. He enjoys bedding a different woman every night without the risk of falling in love. When he hears about a wager over the seduction and ruination of the daughter of his father's best friend, he knows he must intervene. Committing himself to the bet, he agrees to seduce Lady Alexandra Rockford-for her own good. He never expected the lady in question to be a beautiful, fiery creature who has passions of her own that call to his guarded heart.
Alexandra Rockford has sworn off men, her heart still broken from the false promises of a childhood sweetheart who left her to marry an heiress. When she stumbles into Ambrose outside of a country ball, she knows the rake is trouble. His smile, his touch, his forbidden kiss are all too tempting, but being with him would ruin her. Determined to enjoy herself without falling in love, Alex can't help but let her defenses down with the too charming rake. But when she discovers Ambrose is seducing her to win a bet, it will take everything Ambrose has to prove to her that he is worthy to love her.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Loved it. Very entertaining. I loved both the hero and the heroine. This should be listened to before His Wicked Secrets, of another series, The League of Rogues. After Lawrence's and Zera's story. As it happens in the same time frame, September 1821
Didn't particularly like the narrator though. I didn't like her male voices. I much prefer male narrators when they have a good female voice. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A quick short story of love. Expected the ending but isn’t that the reason reading in the first place?
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was not drawn out but fascinatingly wonderful. A great plot and happy ending. Liked it a LOT!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Rakehell's Seduction is a steamy exciting read. This story deals with the men in high society that love to place outrageous wagers and the fallout from one such wager. The author does a brilliant job of showing different sides to two men who have hard-core rogue belief systems. Her uncanny ability to display them with somewhat softer sides without them losing the part of their character that attracted the reader to them at the beginning of the story is handled to perfection.
Incorporated into the story is the fun interaction between Ambrose and Alexandria which I found humorous. I thought Alex was outstanding in keeping Ambrose honest with her directness and no holds barred attitude.
Secondary characters Perdita, Alexandria's best friend, and Vaughn, a new enemy who used to be one of Ambrose's best friends, have some strong presences in the book leading me to believe that they will have their own story in future books to this series.
This story teaches one that things and people are not always what they appear, that anyone can change with the right incentive and that if you truly love someone you will move heaven and earth to make things right. For me, it also showed that sometimes justice comes in the most unusual way.
I give this 4 STARS for how it kept me absorbed in what was going on and at the same time chuckling. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I am not sure how I feel about this book. It was well written but I really disliked the story and could not believe all that nonsense about having to ruin someone’s reputation to help her but to each his own. Well written but awful story. I couldn’t root for any of the characters and so there was a disconnect for me. Maybe it’s just me though
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I hate giving books a single star, so I really try to round up to 2 if there's a way. But there weren't really any aspects I liked in this book to offset some of the ones I didn't. There's faulty reasoning all over the place, the historical setting is as thin as wallpaper, the relationship is hardly more than lust, the heroine is just a shell of a character, and the hero was genuinely off-putting to me. The hero could easily be considered a rogue even by today's standards, much less for that time.
There's basically been a bounty put on ruining the heroine, who is the daughter of a family friend of the hero's. So, with that connection in mind, the hero decides to ruin her himself. As a kindness, you know, as one does. lol. I found his attentions kind of creepy, but that's in the eye of the beholder I guess. He seduces her and beds her without any intention of marrying her. (And doesn't take any precaution not to impregnate her either, by the way. A real catch.) Oh, and he's also a guest in her family's home when he does this, to add insult to injury. Of course her heart gets involved out of nowhere because she's only 22. And he doesn't really have any plan how to make her ruination public, which is a necessary aspect of the bet in order to call off the other dogs he's supposedly protecting her from... At one point a rival actually abducts her, which is a classic villain move, but *his* plan is to only have them found in a compromising position together, not actually debauch her, much less get her to fall in love with him first *before* publically ruining her. And honestly, I liked this bit-part character considerably more than the hero based on that alone. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The Rakehell’s Seduction by Lauren SmithSeduction Series #2The characters in this book grew on me the further I read. I found Ambrose to be rather abrupt and straightforward in stating what he wanted from Alexandra and I found her to be a bit naïve …well…sort of naïve. I am not sure anyone would really come right out and say or do some of things Ambrose did or that a woman would fall for him as quickly as Alexandra did BUT this is fiction and a story to entertain – and it did. Things became more complicated when Darlington arrived on the scene and his machinations were put into play. I kind of want to read more about Darlington as he seems an intriguing character. This was a story with a happy ending and a few twists and turns taken to get there.Thank you to NetGalley and Barclay Publicity for the book. This is my honest review. 3 Stars
