About this audiobook

Jules Verne was a prolific French writer who greatly influenced the science fiction genre. Verne is the second most-translated author behind only Agatha Christie.

A scholar, Dr. Samuel Ferguson, accompanied by his manservant Joe and his friend Richard "Dick" Kennedy, sets out to travel across the African continent — still not fully explored — with the help of a hot-air balloon.

Jules Verne

Jules Verne (1828-1905) used a combination of scientific facts and his imagination to take readers on extraordinary imaginative journeys to fantastic places. In such books as Around the World in Eighty Days, From the Earth to the Moon, and Journey to the Center of the Earth, he predicted many technological advances of the twentieth century, including the invention of the automobile, telephone, and nuclear submarines, as well as atomic power and travel to the moon by rocket.

Though the story, prose, and profuse detail exceeded expectations, the narration was terrible. All dialogue was spoken the same in a bland manner. The narrator didn't even attempt to give each character a different voice, instead every voice was the same, and the voices for the characters were the same as the narrator's voice. Consequently, it was easy to get lost, unsure of who was speaking. In addition, the narrator states in every chapter what the name of the book is, who wrote, and translated it, which obviously becomes an annoyance. However, I did enjoy the book, and would recommend it, but would not recommend this audiobook.
