About this audiobook

Since the night of her brutal attack and unwilling transformation into a vampire, Merit has stood as Sentinel and protector of Chicago's Cadogan House. She's saved the Windy City from the forces of darkness time and again with her liege and lover, Ethan Sullivan, by her side.

When the House is infiltrated and Merit is attacked by a vampire who seems to be under the sway of dark magic, Merit and Ethan realize the danger is closer than they could have imagined. As malign sorcery spreads throughout the city, Merit must go to war against supernatural powers beyond her comprehension. It is her last chance to save everything-and everyone-she loves.

3.5 stars might be a tiny bit unfair. This is probably more of a 4 star read, but I'd have enjoyed this last book in the series more if Neill had opted to end on a bang, rather than full-scale mass destruction. Merit and Ethan and the rest of the scooby gang are trying to enjoy peace and quiet and a wedding, but the after-party comes with snow. In August. After that all hell breaks loose as an old enemy isn't as vanquished as they'd hoped. And boy is she pissed. The thing is, I don't like sequels all that much when they involve 'the return of..'; I was disappointed at the end of the last book (#12) because the big bad was hauled off to jail. Nobody with half a brain could think that would end well. So having her evilness come back felt a bit 'here we go again'. However, I loved what Neill did with Chicago, and I loved, loved, loved how Ms. Evil met her end. It was fitting and it was hilarious. But I love these characters; they're the sort I'd like to call friends. Merit and Mallory have the best dialogs. I think, given enough popcorn and iced tea, I could just sit back and listen to these two talk to each other for hours. My entire immediate family is from Chicago, save myself, so I have an inherited affection for that gorgeous city (Go Cubs!), and it was painful to watch Neill tear it up. And she didn't mess around; she immediately went straight to the landmarks any Chicagoan knows and loves; she didn't even spare the lions! This made reading difficult; I kept thinking no, no, not Shed's... dammit...omg, NOT WATER TOWER PLACE! Of course, the good guys win in the end - that's not a spoiler; it's the last book in the series, so of course they are going to triumph. Normally, in this situation, I enjoy an epilogue; a little something to give me some view of how it all works out in the long run. Honestly though? Here, I'd have been happier without it. It verged on twee. I can't believe Neill went twee on me. But... glancing at the book ads at the end, it seems she's creating a new series based on the two characters in that twee little scene, so I suppose there was a method to her madness. I've love this series madly, and I think the author brought it to an end at a good time and place. I'll try the new series, although I'm not sure Chicagoland will hold the same appeal to me without her landmarks and without Merit's and Mallory's witty repartee.

    Good finale

I liked this even thought the demise of the villain was a bit anti-climactic. This book focused a lot on relationships. I liked the interaction between Mallory, Catcher, Merit and Ethan. We finally got the wedding but he whole, "you're mine" bit got a little tiresome. The slaying of the dragon topped off the series nicely as did the new beginnings for all the families. Looking forward to the next series.

Merit and Ethan must confront the latest threat to Chicago in the form of a malicious sorceress who will stop at nothing to prove her superiority over both humans and supernaturals. Can they stop her from destroying everyone and everything they hold dear?

The final installment in Chloe Neill's Chicagoland Vampires series continues in the same vein as the previous books with Merit, Ethan and Chicago's vampires fighting to save the city from the villain of the week. Nevertheless, there is one really good plot development who doesn't love a good dragon? that goes a long way toward compensating for the humdrum of the first two thirds.

Of course, the answer to the long awaited question is finally provided. Unfortunately, the explanation for Merit's prophesized pregnancy is rather meh! Somehow I was expecting something more intimate and profound than the Deus Ex Machina of the dragon's power binding the fetus. Ah well!

Overall, like the series as a whole, Blade Bound has some fantastic moments interspersed throughout that make it an entertaining read. Now I have to decide if I'm interested in continuing with the spin-off …. Probably, but only once there are several published. I don't have the patience to wait long periods between installments.

I has a sad, because this is the last of the Chicagoland Vampire series, so this is the last of Merit and Ethan. It's been a fun read for the series. Though we have a spin off series coming, so who knows? We might see more...I'd forgotten this was the wedding novel. That's fitting considering what direction my life is heading. I'm glad the author broke the trope so that No major event interrupted the wedding. While I understand the drama behind it, it'd become so overdone... Spoke too soon the major interruption happened as they left the wedding. Oh well, it still provided the push for the story. Plot must move forward. Two twists in a row I didn't expect. Big Bad makes Bigger Bad to wreak havoc. Bigger Bad kills Big Bad. Still waiting for something to click with one of the characters... though it never does. Expectations can be a killer with some novels.A very good book. The series grew at she wrote it. I enjoyed the characters and the snark, the food descriptions. I think I'll keep reading this author's stuff.

BLADE BOUND concludes the Chicagoland Vampires series. It begins with a wedding. Merit and Ethan are set to tie themselves together for eternity. We get to tag along on Merit's girls night out where she and friends overindulge on chocolate. Things have been quiet in Chicago for four months after Sorcha's defeat but, naturally, things can't stay that way.The night before the wedding Merit surprises a vampire in Ethan's office who seems to be mentally ill. He is frantic because he is hearing voices. The next day when Merit and Ethan are taking wedding pictures they come upon a riot where humans hearing voices are fighting. Something is going on in Chicago. Both Gabriel and Mallory have has a sense of unease. It shouldn't be Sorcha since the wizards have put up wards that should trigger if she comes back to Chicago. But next the weather starts getting colder. While snow in August isn't impossible, the temperature and the amount of snow, especially since it is falling from a clear sky, make it clear that something magical is happening. The center of the magical disturbance is traced to Sorcha's Towerline building. Ethan and Merit break in and discover Sorcha's workroom and manage to gather some of her notes before needing to leave ahead of guards. Mallory and Catcher manage to decipher the cryptic notes which show that Sorcha is building a magical construct to help her get revenge on Chicago, Merit and Mallory. This story was action-packed and filled with new dangers for Merit and Ethan. Merit has her courage tested. She and Ethan are still trying to decide what they feel about the prophecy that they will have the first vampire child. Merit is very concerned for that future child's safety. This was a great conclusion to an excellent series. I look forward to seeing where Neill takes the spinoff series which will begin in 2018.

BLADE BOUND was a thrilling conclusion to Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires series. The story starts out with Merit’s and Ethan’s wedding. After an attack, Merit, Ethan, and friends once again help to save the city from a sinister supernatural onslaught. This contemporary urban fantasy is suitable for adult audiences. I love Merit’s character. She grew tremendously throughout this series. She is an admirable character that makes an amazing Sentinel for Cadogan House and protector for Chicago. She and Ethan make an astonishing couple that support one another. I love that Mallory played an important role in this story. The series began with her and Merit as roommates. I think it is appropriate that she played a pivotal part of the final story in the series. I love Merit’s network of friends. They are all unique and have an instrumental function in Merit’s life and adventures. The plot was exciting and full of unexpected and creative twists. I enjoyed this story from start to finish. Being a Chicagoan, I have always appreciated the hometown references that Chloe Neill includes in her stories. It makes me feel a bit nostalgic. Chloe Neill did a remarkable job with the Chicagoland Vampires series. Her character development and writing style are noteworthy. I’m really hoping that there is going to be a spin off series with Elisa, Lulu, and Connor. I am going to miss this series, and am sad that it is ending. I will be re-reading it. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

The end is here and I'm not ready for the series to be over!I have enjoyed every moment of Merit's story since she was introduced in SOME GIRLS BITE. Merit is just really easy to like and relate too and the stories are written in such a way that it was so easy to bring everything to life in my mind. I have laughed, I've cried, I've screamed and and I have wanted to throw my book—sometimes at the author even— several times over the series, but I have never wanted to stop reading and finding out more. It has always felt like everything was happening for a reason.Following Merit and Ethan's love story was just as great. They are such a strong couple and although they butt heads—often—it's clear that they were made for each other. I didn't always love Ethan, but he has grown so much since we first met him and they both make each other better people.A lot happens in BLADE BOUND and a lot is concluded. Honestly there hasn't been one installment of the Chicagoland Vampires series I didn't love—even though one in particular made me REALLY mad at the author. No matter how you feel about the series, if you have made it this far, you can't stop before finding out how things end.*Spoiler Alert* My only real disappointment about BLADE BOUND has to do with the one thing I couldn't wait for since the moment it was mentioned. After all the lead-up to the whole baby thing, I kinda wanted more out of it. I am glad we got a little epilogue, but I would have LOVED to see Merit pregnant and watch the way that Ethan and all the vampires treated her and her response to being handled like a fragile princess. It would have been epic! I am of course very glad that it finally happened and in such a way that made it believable.*End Spoiler Alert*All in all, I'm happy with how things ended for Ethan, Merit and the rest of the Chicagoland gang. I don't want to spoil the spin off news for you—so I will let you read what it's about for yourself at the end of BLADE BOUND—but you can bet I will be reading it!* This book was provided free of charge from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
