Description
Ray Dalio, one of the world's most successful investors and entrepreneurs, shares the unconventional principles that he's developed, refined, and used over the past forty years to create unique results in both life and business—and which any person or organization can adopt to help achieve their goals.
In 1975, Ray Dalio founded an investment firm, Bridgewater Associates, out of his two-bedroom apartment in New York City. Forty years later, Bridgewater has made more money for its clients than any other hedge fund in history and grown into the fifth most important private company in the United States, according to Fortune magazine. Dalio himself has been named to Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Along the way, Dalio discovered a set of unique principles that have led to Bridgewater's exceptionally effective culture, which he describes as "an idea meritocracy that strives to achieve meaningful work and meaningful relationships through radical transparency." It is these principles, and not anything special about Dalio—who grew up an ordinary kid in a middle-class Long Island neighborhood—that he believes are the reason behind his success.
In Principles, Dalio shares what he's learned over the course of his remarkable career. He argues that life, management, economics, and investing can all be systemized into rules and understood like machines. The book's hundreds of practical lessons, which are built around his cornerstones of "radical truth" and "radical transparency," include Dalio laying out the most effective ways for individuals and organizations to make decisions, approach challenges, and build strong teams. He also describes the innovative tools the firm uses to bring an idea meritocracy to life, such as creating "baseball cards" for all employees that distill their strengths and weaknesses, and employing computerized decision-making systems to make believability-weighted decisions. While the book brims with novel ideas for organizations and institutions, Principles also offers a clear, straightforward approach to decision-making that Dalio believes anyone can apply, no matter what they're seeking to achieve.
Here, from a man who has been called both "the Steve Jobs of investing" and "the philosopher king of the financial universe" (CIO magazine), is a rare opportunity to gain proven advice unlike anything you'll find in the conventional business press.

Avis
The first hundred pages I read very closely. I skimmed the rest. Dalio is an obsessively competitive person and he carefully architects how he succeeds. For all the billions of dollars he has earned I don't understand what tangible assets he's created. This book may be the wrong source for what I seek. Dalio compares himself to Steve Jobs. Jobs developed computer devices that expand and enrich the lives of millions of people. Dalio managed the most successful hedge fund making rich people richer. Both are wealthy and Jobs created thousands of jobs and enriched consumers lives, I don't know what Dalio invented. A few thousand people work at Dalio's Bridgewater Capital.I think Dalio's goals are contribute to making excessive greed an admirable quality in the USA. His competitive nature makes for a life filled with success and no meaning.
Such insightful and practicable principles can be applied in real life and work scenarios. Ray Dario gave a great impact in my life. Thanks
One of the best book i ever listened to. I will listen to it a 2nd time. It was that good.
good book, it is worth to read. the book provides many useful principles
Useful learning from an experienced leader and data-driven improver who shares his own principles for life and work.
Effective management book well written and narrated by one of the greatest game changers of our time. A must for everyone in business!
Useful advices and some interesting thoughts, but felt like too much unnecessary details or statements made it hard to focus on main points
Great book! I love the sound of an idea meritocracy and it's interesting seeing how Bridgewater has been able to implement it.
a comprehensive work and life manual, from someone who has obviously succeeded. Good stuff..
Good read. Perfect for any business person! The audio book was well done!
Best business/life book out there. The audiobook is really good, however, I suggest getting the physical copy. Hand in hand you should have no issues succeeding in what you want applying the principles outlined in the book. Simply amazing.
Overall, very good advice. Each time I read this, I discover new gems. Most inspiring is that Ray Dalio lost everything due to mistakes. He used that as motivation to become who and what he is. I think the book is a bit overkill with overlapping principals. I like examples and anecdotes to anchor the messages. Worth reading...and implementing: transparency and accountability with meritocracy as a backdrop elliminates emotions, politics and clicks.
Outstanding collection of thorough meaningfull insights in which combined will sustain success
I got the audio book because I thought it was going to give me insights on how to invest. It was more about how to run and manage your business. It’s really because it gives you a way of looking at life and how to apply it like a business.
Greatest book of all time , business and life
One of the best business/ life books. It's broken down into work and life sections but blends so well. Looking forward to adopting some of these principles and tools!
could be much better if less repetitive, marketing company and self
Wow. Extremely comprehensive and illustrated with deeper meaning. A must read for any business owner.
Loved the no nonsense style of narration and content. Like the clear thinking thought process of Ray and sharing what he has learnt from life and what worked for him. Definitely provides a lot to reflect on and figure out what works for each of us.
Very comprehensive advise based on decades of experience and data.
Great life insight, perspective, thought all related to our decision making
The most painful lesson that was repeatedly hammered home is that you can never be sure of anything: There are always risks out there that can hurt you badly, even in the seemingly safest bets, so its always best to assume you're missing something. This lesson changed my approach to decision making in ways that will reverberate throughout this book - and to which I attribute much of my success."
The offers some practical lessons about truths regarding life, management, investing and economics. The author terms these elements as rules. Some great ways for people to wise decisions and strong teams are put forward.
Great audiobook gave me several principals that I can use
It has the information I actually need to govern my business and set it to a higher standard level. The information in this audio book is so insightful. Kudos Ray Dalio.
I have excellent benefits from the book and especially learnt how one can take in pain and use it for success. I embrace pain and always looking for opportunities through my pain.
this book is worth listening to with a lot to teach
Impressive. Precise, practical advice. Worth Reading. Its good in gaining business insights from a successful entrepreneur and financial leader.
a must recommend book to listen. So much lessons to learn about life especially to each and everyone's principles. I was taking down some notes while listening.
This book is something really useful for me since I am not really good in working with other people. It contains everything that I need to know to be successful once I start working with others. Ray Dalio shared everything to his readers in order to succeed in life. Most of what is said is something that I have never encountered before, that's why I was never good enough with people. His principles have changed my perspective in life and in being a true leader.
