- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Got a recommendation to read this book from other fans of Dee Henderson and Dani Pettrey. Definitely an excellent read! Looking forward to books 2 and 3!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I have to admit, I had very low expectations for this book, so was pleasantly surprised when it was better than I thought.
The story was very different than any I've read before, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Both Kate and Landon were interesting characters and I enjoyed their stories. The legal aspect was interesting and enlightening. I really loved the romance. Sweet and slow, just how I like it.
There were a couple of minor inconsistencies with the characters that bugged me a bit, but like I said, they were very minor. Also, the legelese was pretty intense. I had a hard time understanding what on earth the characters were talking about for a good portion of the book. It's clear Dylan is very knowledgeable on this subject, but for the laymen readers like me, it would have been nice if she had simplified things a little.
All in all, I did enjoy this book, and am interested in reading the next one. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The first book in this exciting series has started off with a powerful storyline. Pharmaceutical companies try to introduce new medicines everyday. What happens when one company pushes for a new drug that they secretly know is harmful? I have to compare this writing style to the caliber of Robin Cook meets John Grisham in a gritty drama that exceeds with high octane action. The author in my opinion has surpassed the above mentioned authors with tough as nails characters and a plot that takes you inside boardrooms to pharmacy labs where secrets are exposed. I loved Kate instantly. She is a strong woman with exceptional ethics. When she takes lead on a case involving one of the most powerful pharmaceutical companies , her life is suddenly in danger. The tension mounts as a whistle blower comes forward. Will Kate be able to keep the person alive long enough to testify? The relationship between Kate and Landon was nice and I loved how faith became a factor as they grew closer to each other. I loved the fast pace of the story and the details of how lawyers investigate to get their facts in order. It was interesting to see how greed can take over someone and turn them into nothing more than a heartless person. It boggles my mind that a company knowingly will put a dangerous medication on the market for money. Who decides to go a step further in order to win the lawsuit? Are they willing to kill to get what they want?Landon joins Kate in the investigation and proves to be a valuable asset to her. He is powerful and determined to keep Kate safe. Will he be able to keep her away from danger? The intrigue was incredible and I loved the cat and mouse game the pharmaceutical company played with Kate’s law firm. Their oh so innocent need for time to prepare for trial was devious. This is one book you must read if you love thrillers with greed, secrets, danger , lies , and learning to trust. I will be anxiously awaiting the next book in this well written series. I received a copy of this book from LitFuse. The review is my own opinion.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5If you enjoy a read with you heart in your throat, this one will probably do it. You never knew when the next shoe would drop, and just when you feel safe, boom or grab. People are murdered or just disappear, and why, greed seems to be the answer here. The author kept me on my toes, and I felt like I was reading something that was in the paper, there is often a lawsuit against a drug company, and what drug doesn’t seem to come with warnings?Surprises abound right up until the end, never would have guessed what happened, and add to that a bit of romance. A real page-turner here, I wasn’t able to put this one down, I had to know the ending!I received this book through Lit Fuse Publicity Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Deadly Proof (Atlanta Justice, #1)by Kate Sullivan proves itself to be a thrilling book because it could actually happen. A case of big business being a boss unto itself, accountable to no one, especially not to those who may have been harmed by Mason Pharmaceutical's lust for money. And more money.Kate Sullivan has been selected as head lawyer for the plaintiff group. Kate needs to win, for her career, her pride, but mostly because she wants to protect those who cannot protect themselves.Kate's opponent, Ethan, a friend from law school, needs to win. It will keep HIS career on track, keep him living the high life, and maybe bring Mason on board as a heavyweight client. This is a novel where the major characters play their roles, but kindly leave enough room for secondary characters to rise from obscurity and shine brightly. The lawyers both do amazing work; yet without the presence and actions of these supporting characters, the grand climax would never happen. I love that Kate holds fast to her faith in the presence of Landon's questions. She doesn't fumble around trying to answer with deep theological reasoning. Kate presents her thought, gives Landon time to process it, and lets the Lord do the work in Landon's heart.I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. This in no way affected my opinions, for which I am solely responsible.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I find it fascinating to read about the inner workings of legal procedures as a case comes to trial. It doesn't matter if the main story is about the prosecution's side or that of the defendant. It is interesting. Of course, I don't understand the terms being used, but the author's ability to write about how information is gathered and presented and what is and is not allowed in court is certainly evidenced in Deadly Proof as practicing attorney and author Rachel Dylan takes us into the world where pharmaceutical research and marketing meet the road with attorneys and judges.I live in an area that has several major pharmaceutical research and development companies. These are mega corporations with global marketing. I have known marketing people and research scientists personally in some of these companies. There are also a couple of major research hospitals in our area and these play a major role in the development of cutting edge medicines that are marketed by these global corporations. I can see a situation such as the one fictionalized in Deadly Proof easily a reality. As author Rachel Dylan weaves this story of corporate greed, medical travesty, and thrilling legal expertise the depth to which corporate greed and criminal intent can go lead the reader through scenes terrifyingly rife with nail-biting realism.Touched by a bit of romance that softens the harshness of a world gone bad, the book concludes on an uplifting and joyful note.DISCLOSURE: I received a complimentary copy to facilitate a review. These are my own opinions and are freely given.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Holy smokes! Ms. Dylan is AH-mazing!!! I was so excited to get this book and review it. I sat down the minute I got it and DEVOURED it! I was done almost as quickly as I began it. Her writing style is just THAT good. The intensity that she creates the story with, I felt every bit of it. It was a wonderful time, reading this story! I have always had a fascination with crime drams and the legalities of it all, so when I had the chance to review this for the author, I jumped on it. The plot line was intruiging and the characters sounded absolutely fantastic. I was right. Kate and Landon's characters were both beautifully chiseled for their roles and instantly stole my heart. The sparks that pass between them are awesome and the suspenseful twists to the story really bring out the intensity of both of these characters as the heart pounding, page turning scenes come to life. This book is in my top 10 favorite reads of 2017. It is a wonderful story, filled with edge of your seat, fast paced circumstances. Learning to lean on God in times of crisis, and focusing on the future and not the past really make this book beyond 5 star worthy. I can't wait to see what book 2 in this incredible new series has in store for us. Hats off and gavels down to the awesometastic author, Rachel Dylan!*I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers/author and was under no obligation to post a review, positive or negative.*
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Kate has earned the position of lead counsel in a lawsuit against a pharmaceutical company. More than the chance to further her career as a lawyer, she wants justice for the people whose lives have been severely damaged by a dangerous drug on the market. But when a whistleblower from the company is murdered, Kate soon learns that she may also become a target in Deadly Proof, a novel by author Rachel Dylan.I’m quite a fan of legal fiction, and it was the pharmaceutical aspect of the plot that most drove me to pick up this romantic suspense novel. While I think the characters tend to repeat or explain the obvious sometimes, the legal points of the story are laid out well. I most enjoyed watching Kate in her professional element.Overall, however, the characters didn’t really “pop” for me. I found the romance and the spiritual side of the story to be rather trite, relying too much on clichéd phrases and situations without digging deeper. The naiveté of a couple of the characters didn’t feel realistic, especially for people near or past middle age. I saw most of the dangers and twists coming before they happened. Also, on a minor note, I felt like too many sentences, both in the narration and the dialogue, began with the word “And.” I’m actually fond of beginning sentences that way myself, but it can be easy to go a little overboard with it.Still, I think other fans of ChristFic legal thrillers and romantic suspense may want to check this book out.________________Bethany House provided me with a complimentary copy of this book for an honest review.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a fantastic beginning to a series. I could not put this book down. I loved all the twists and turns that led Kate to the answer. I loved the characters and look forward to meeting more in the next book. This helped me to know how a big case like this law suit can be handled. I received this book from the author and Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Rachel Dylan’s newest novel, Deadly Proof, the first book in the Atlanta Justice series, kept me guessing. And that’s is quite an accomplishment! You see, my favorite all time genre is suspense, and I read tons of it. But one drawback is that I often figure out just whodunit even before the characters do. ? But I had no idea who the real bad guys were. Murder, dirty corporate tricks, and sabotage are just a few things that made the pages fly. Kudos to Dylan and the fabulous start to what promises to be a great series.Kate Sullivan is a legal eagle for a plaintiffs’ law firm in Midtown Atlanta. She has a big case against a pharmaceutical company that will take all of her know-how and expertise. But threats from the other side and sabotage from within her law firm make it especially difficult and dangerous. Luckily she has ex-Army Ranger Landon Jones on her side investigating and providing protection . . . and the promise of a sweet romance for this career-oriented and high-powered attorney.Rachel Dylan is an attorney herself and her background in both litigation and corporate law makes Deadly Proof a credible read. There’s plenty of courtroom detail to keep things interesting, but she keeps it easy to understand. I loved the ins and outs of document research, depositions, and legal strategy. Main characters Kate and Landon are experts in their fields, yet are real and relatable. They have struggles, doubts and issues that everyone faces at one time in their lives. Flawed, yet ultimately faith-filled, their lives ring true. The novel’s fast pace and twisting plot will, as I stated above, keep you guessing. The stakes are high for both the legal case and the characters’ lives. There are bad guys and bad guys, if you know what I mean. The setting is Atlanta, a location I am very familiar with. It was fun to visit well-known locations with the characters. A strong faith message of God’s control over everything runs throughout the book. Some characters relay heavily on God, others are seekers, and still others are just not interested — also very true to life.Dylan is not new to the writing life. She has a number of Love Inspired titles and two Indie published series. Her experience shows. Deadly Proof is well-written with characters you will love and care about. And if you are a fan of romantic/legal suspense, it is a perfect choice for you.Highly Recommended.Audience: adults.(Thanks to Bethany House and the author for an complimentary ARC. All opinions expressed are mine alone.)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Deadly Proof is book one in the Atlanta Justice Series and it sets the tone for a series suspenseful ride! Rachel Dylan touches on an intense subject with pharmaceutical medications and the greed to sell them no matter what the cost. I loved Kate Sullivan and her no compromise way of handling things. She could’ve fought dirty but she trusts God to help her do things the right way. The legal way. The ethical way. Landon James is a wonderful and determined protector who of course, stole my heart. Having said that, there’s a lot of bad guys and I didn’t expect the twist at the end. But it made for a great story and I devoured the book. Deadly Proof is filled with great moments, what if’s and of course, SUSEPENSE. Outstanding work by Rachel Dylan!FAVORITE QUOTES:As far as the MPC litigation went, Kate planned to push as hard as she could and do everything within her power to gain justice for the innocent. (Pg. 43)“To make the next cure-all drug, there will always be some type of collateral damage.” (pg 74)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book had me from the very first page. Plenty of twist and turns but doesn't get confusing. Really good for the first in a series and I can't wait for the second book to come out. I received this from LibraryThing Member Giveaway.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Legally DruggedKate Sullivan is a brilliant lawyer who takes on a drug company putting everything she believes in at risk. The plot twists and turns. It provides insight into class action lawsuits. With big money and egos at stake, the lawyers are at the center of a possible cover up and conspiracy that puts their clients and companies ahead of patients. The story highlights the fine line between healing and harming. While righting the wrong done to patients is central to the plot, readers may be surprised at what part the patients play in the lawsuit. It is a fast interesting read with a touch of romance tossed in.I was randomly chosen through a LibraryThing Giveaway to receive this book free from the author. Although encouraged, I was under no obligation to write a review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is an enjoyable entry into a new series. Kate and Landon are both injured deep in their souls, but together find their way back to the healing love of God. The mystery is straightfoward but has a nice twist at the end. Worth checking out the next entry in the series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5There's nothing like a legal thriller and that is exactly what this is! I received this as a Library Thing giveaway and am so thrilled that I did! Kudos to Dylan for providing this reader with a wonderful legal thriller with no fluff. The mixing of mystery and romance was perfect. I cannot wait to read the sequels.
